When is fishing coming to this game?
Seems like the perfect game to add fishing. Carp and fly fishing, just do it.

i think there gonna be more focused on the hunting aspect for quite awhile if you want to play a good fishing game ultimate fishing simulator is a fun game and if you want a hunting game that has hunting and fishing then some of the older hunting games like cabelas outdoor adventures 2006 is perfect for you

Fishing, bow fishing has been asked before, even the in the classic game.
There recently been posts asking about boats and a swimming mechanic.
Duck's will likely turn up at some point, which would be good for hunting from a boat.
I would like to see fishing added to the game in some format. There are not many fishing games out there.
And yes the hunter setting would be really good for fishing, boat fishing, bow fishing duck hunting from a boat.
Atm, the reason fishing isn't in the game is because the game is focused on Trophy hunting. The stalking, tracking hunting game.
But I personally think it could be added and I think there would be a market for it.

in my personal opinion i figure it would just add 50 more bugs to the game and have a ♥♥♥♥ load more paid dlc

Official response when asked during a live stream about fishing being added.

I’m in the never crowd. I bought this game as a hunting game, not a fishing game.

Okay, my response.

Tacking on fishing. We would have to create it from scratch. We would have to create a whole new game.

(A bit of a rant)

Val-des-Bois, from classic. The climbing mechanic.

As far as I could tell, no one asked from a climbing mechanic in the hunter classic.

“Please correct me if I’m wrong on that, if there was a discussion, would someone mind adding a link to the discussion, please? Just for my reference, I’m not going to complain about a mechanic that has been around for ages. But would educate me if it was discussed.”

When I think of hunting, Mountaineering, is not something that pops to my mind.

For anyone who never played classic or doesn’t know, the mechanic required rope which we had to buy with real money, not in game credit. We needed the rope to scale the mountains in order to hunt the Ibex :(
You went up to the rope, press the activate button. Press up or Down to go up or down. Once you got past a certain point. It would have that balancing mechanic where you have to press left or right to stay within the balance tolerance. If you failed, down the mountain you went. Hunt over.

That’s a fair amount of coding, art assets, planning and implementing and testing, for something that wasn’t needed in the game.

Rant over.

The dev’s showed they can add completely new game mechanics to the classic game. From what I can tell the engine COTW is using, is more capable.
They have the skills and the creativity to make a new game elements for COTW.
It’s the time and having enough people available to create it. Plus the whole game design element.

Yes the hunter is a hunting game.
Well.
Explain what shooting ducks and geese out of the sky is. Or waiting for hours in a stand waiting for something to randomly come your way.
What about waiting by a pond, for hours, waiting for the lines to jolt, and forcefully get it out of the water in your hands.
What about standing by a river, or on a boat waiting for fish to become visible enough for you to shoot them with a bow. “This one especially feels like hunting”
Shooting rabbits and critters come across as Pest control to me, not hunting. Although rabbit is quite nice, same as certain type of fish, if cook right. Or maybe sushi.

To me at least, any activity that require a person to use their skills to kill an animal for food or as a trophy can be classed as hunting.

I know fishing is considered a sport. But that’s is only in western countries. Go to other places in the world and it’s a very different story.

I reckon we won’t see this for a few years. The dev’s probably already have their work path planned out. And I would like them to focus on it. As there are just tons of stuff that we kinda already want in the game. Feeders, more weapons, and animals and reserves. And lots more.

A fishing element.
As they said it’s been asked for before. So there is interest.

I feel COTW is big enough for hunting deer, birds, critters, big dangerous game, and fishing. Maybe even more in time.

For all you lot who want this to stay a deer hunting type game. It already is! Even if they did create and add this. The hunter would still be heavily stalking, tracking, shooting animals.
Their not going to get rid of the Elk for fish.
But they can certainly add the fishing, and not touch the Elk and the rest of the animals.

As for bugs, you do realise that everything they add to this game will come with bugs.

What’s important is they solves the bugs before moving on. Probably why the geese got pushed back. They didn’t want everyone to complain about the bugs.
Also you realise even though they pushed the geese back. There are still going to be bugs.
Look at the rabbits, since they got added there have been some new bugs.
As well as old ones which haven’t been solved yet.

The hunter series started as a deer hunting game in classic. But they have already evolved with classic. It’s moved on from just shooting deer and shooting geese and ducks out of the sky. There’s climbing mountains and dealing with freezing weather, which if you don’t have the right clothing, your hunt wont last long. The only thing that limited the classic dev’s was their imagination, the time they had, the direction the head developers chose to go, and mostly that old game engine.

It’ll bring more players to the game, which is good for business. It’s add more diversity to the game.
The geese being added is one of the reason we are suddenly seeing Classic players turn up even though this game has been out for a year.
They finally have the game play that most appeals to them.
Some people really don’t like the Stalking tracking game play.
But waiting in a ground blind and knowing a flock of birds will fly over and all you have to do is call them down, and boom, there’s you targets.
No tracking for 20 mins just to see the animal. No hiding in bushes and playing the ambushing game.

Instead an area with guaranteed action, because you the player set up a ground blind and the decoys.

Game Design. Only a suggestion, and a very basic draft idea of how the fishing element could be done.

Fishing =
Firstly, fish can be spooked, same mechanic as with the other animals, after some time, they come back.
Fishing Blinds to help concealment and maybe some new clothing.
Fishing rods, and modifications for the bows to allow the shooting of fishing arrows.

Fish can be spotted with binoculars, but only up to a certain depth.
Air bubbles and water splashes indicate if fish are around.

Rod fishing =
3 types of bait, basically mimicking the arrow types. Small bait gets small fish, medium gets medium, and big get big fish.
Right click for aim.
Left click to cast, maybe use a mechanic where the player has to press and hold for the Cast distance to increase.
Maybe something like what’s used in Golf games.
After some time, if a fish shows interest, the lines jiggles and the floating bobber moves to indicate if fish are interested, once a fish bites the line gets tighter as the fish swims away. Rod bends too.
At this point Right click becomes a rod controller, so the players can lead the fish left and right.
Left click reels the fish in.
When the fish fights back, the rod start dipping and the line gets tighter to indicate the fish is fighting the lines. The players needs to to stop reeling in and let the fish loose a little, once the fish relaxes and stops fighting the player can start reeling in again. Using the left and right directional pull lessens the chance of the fish fighting.
Once close enough, Press E to harvest fish.
Same thing as other animals weight, size and skin type are recorded.

Bow fishing =
Same mechanics for the bows as we already have.
Aim at fish.
Compensate for the optical illusion the water creates. I believe you need to aim higher than the fish appears. “Please correct me if it’s the other way around”
Shoot, if you hit, you simply reel the fish in, press E to harvest.

Again I wouldn’t expect to see this until there are like maybe 5 to 6 reserves with a whole bunch of new species to hunt. And yes many of the current bugs solved.

There is room for them, it adds diversity. Always add to a game, never get rid of something people like.

I check out Fishing Planet, and quite frankly it looks simple. The guy I watched playing just yanked the fish out the water. The casting the line, look like a simple button press. Graphics, certainly not up to par with COTW.
I did notice the time element. I know you can be waiting for a bite for hours before anything properly bites.
Bit like waiting in a stand atm. Random chance.

Fishing simulator looks okay. But I noticed something with both of them. Lot’s and Lot’s of player indicators. Something the Hunter dev’s are good at is making us use our eyes and ears, instead of giving us something tell tells us what’s happening. Their are good at making us use our intuition.

Here are some links to bow fishing.

This one was unexpected. How many times have people asked about Blow guns? I’m also including on the Classic forum with that.

But as the guys said. We’ll have to wait and see, as there are a lot of things to consider and it is a bit of a gamble adding something new to an existing game.

But again, if they simply add this to the existing game and don’t mess with the existing game play to much. I can't see current players really having anything to complain about, as there hunting experience wasn’t changed.
But I do think we’ll see some new players come along just for the fishing, in a beautifully made world, which from what I can see. The contenders can’t match.

As always please feel free to comment. All this is a request and an idea. You have a say too.

Thx

I think the game needs fishing. The game is becoming too redundant. There are lots of games that have added fishing as a side thing and were very successful. I am not talking about a full-fledged fishing game, just adding some simple mechanics to the game. In the game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time they added a fishing function that was really fun and not even part of the game, as far as completing the mission. It was just a fun addition.

In cotw they could add fishing as a way to pass time waiting for animals to arrive, say, instead of taking a nap in a tent. Say you have a couple of hours (game time) to burn before a need zone becomes active. I remember a game I played once that had fishing, but instead of catching fish, you caught tools and equipment. I can't remember the name of the game. It was a long time ago.

They could add fishing as a way for beginners who don't have a lot of money to get more money and ammo. Imagine if you could go fishing, fight a fish, and then it comes up and says, "You snagged a quiver of five arrows!". Or you could add the fish to your inventory and eat it as a way to recuperate from damage instead of a medkit.

As a real-life survivalist, I have always mixed fishing and hunting. You can fish any time of the day, and it does not take much effort. I think adding fishing would give the game a much more realistic feel. After a long morning of hunting, it would be nice to set up camp and throw a line in before the afternoon hunt starts.

One of the dev live streams explained that fishing will not be added. Gist was "in order to do it right, fishing needs to be a separate game".
