Heart and double lung shots = Instakill
For the life of me I don't understand how these do not insta kill. I tracked a moose for 10 minutes only to find my shot was perfect double lung.....I had the same on a red fox (who teleported over 1 mountain and 2 lakes before I found him).

The heart is super hard to hit. There is only track chasing as a reward for this perfect shot.

Double lung is surely the easiest shot, but these are vital organs.....single lung on the other hand i can understand the running off.....double lung should drop it right there.

I do my best to spine shot everything to reduce the amount of time I spend chasing tracks.

What are your thoughts?

Double lung shot isn't really instant kill. It is quick, but not instant. Animal basically drowns in own blood while also suffocating due to air escaping through holes in lungs. Sorry for horrible details. It can run short distance with both lungs hit

use the right guns and you will have no issue.. with lower calibers you have hardly a chance to reach the heart at all on larger animals as the bullets are stopped on any bones or huge muscles.
And if you had full metal jackets what damage would a small bullet do on a 7 pound moose heart, after it travelled through the body sourrounding it?

Nevertheless there is a balancing issue with calibers, rifles and its ammo.

And double lungshots well sometimes it drops them sometimes not..

But at the and i am not an expert and this has been discussed very often

I once shot a moose bull right into its heart, but with .243 rifle. It ran about 175 meters before dropping. I had no problem with this, low caliber can surely result in delayed heart failure, and there is no rib cage in the game to affect bullet

thanks for that information!

I am shure they added a random factor to the hitbox of the loungs that simulates the hit of a rib and will prevent a further traveling inside the first (low caliber) or into the second loung. It would be just some lines of code with the content of rolling a dice..

I always use the right caliber/ammo. I still have to chase them like mad and rarely get a 100% quickkill for taking this type of shot. It's very often a would-be Diamond to a gold. This is my point. Neck and spine for the win.....no chasing tracks and more diamonds.

+1 to the real life videos and I understand your point there but, I was talking about the game...

I'm starting to think it kind of depends on the animal after going back through my kills list. I've double lung instant killed Roe, Reindeer, Whitetail & even a Fallow from 76.89yds (all with a 420gr arrow & Hawk Edge bow). Elk & moose double lung (600gr arrow) so far have led me on a nice tracking session.

420gr arrow in the game is more effective for double lung shot than bullet

I guess that is a plus since I don't have near the range of the rifles & pistols. Now I wonder if I can talk the store into buying back all of my rifles & pistols or swapping arrows for them.
