Siberian Ibex, Wolves, Ptarmigans, and even Smowshoe Hares as a sort of 'filler' species could go a long way to mix things up.
Yeah though, it's such a great reserve that needs a little more love. The best and often overlooked aspect to Medved was the story plot. I really enjoyed the narration and doing the missions there.
I like all the animal suggestions which you mentioned, although snowshoe hare would be the least exciting one and AFAIK it's a North American species, anyway. Another possibilities would be the muskox or the squirrel.
I would of liked to have seen a southwest U.S. map with pronghorn antelope, javelina, bobcats, mule deer, bighorn, Rocky Mountain Elk, turkey, exc. That would be 4 brand new animal species, one repeat, and 2 new variations of animals we have in game already.
I started playing Medved to kinda compensate lack of winter in real life and definitely got what I was looking for. I'm not easily impressed by video games, but Medved was literally jaw-dropping despite its flaws.
So, yes, I agree that Taiga needs some love, some polishing and at least one new animal.
I just hope we're not in minority here.
