My journey through MedVed Taiga. Thus far. Player feedback
I’m just giving some feedback on my experience so far at MedVed. This isn’t a review, just a players experience.

I already had experienced the game flow having hunted in Hirsch and Layton. Start somewhere. There will be a deer or one of the smaller animals close by, just to give the player a carrot to follow. Follow the mission and go to a tower and then go to the first lodge.
As I walked, crept and started to explore. I found myself, constantly stopped and starting and creeping all the time.
The sounds in Medved seem louder than in Hirsch or Layton. I think the crisping and cracking from the icing twigs made me move far more cautiously than in the other reserves.
The veg is so dense I can’t see that far around me, I’m hesitant to walk around in case I spook an animal I didn’t see.
I’m still getting used to it.
This was compounded by the small pouch I was wearing. Which increased the sound and visible detection of my character. I’m going to stop using it. Hopefully it will make me less easy to detect.
The wind seems to be constantly howling away, made it harder for me to guess how much noise my character was creating in the world.

I found most of the animals kept hiding in the heavy bush.
It made it very difficult to hunt as I was used to far less dense vegetation coming from the other reserves. I would hear a warning call right in front of me but i couldn't see the animal, and because of the noise my character produced (again probably because of the belly bag) I would only move at the slowest speed.
But quite often, the animal would get spooked and run of, or start moving away.
(Would be nice if maybe we could get an active perk, that lets us see the animals in dense veg if they are close enough)

I hate the areas with the white frozen dense bushes,,,I know that describes a lot of the areas. Had to move at a snails pace all the time, as my character seemed to make a lot of noise going through bush.

I can’t be sure, but Medved does seem to have more bugs going on than the other reserve.
Had 2 animals jump in the air upon shooting them. Both where Musk deer.
(Speaking of Musk Deer, we could really do with a caller for them. I’d hear their calls, but I would have to close the gap, and they don’t make themselves easy to spot, plus the dense veg and the ever changing terrain.)
Kept getting that sound bug, with the overly louder bushes.
Plus I am seeing a lot of animals spawning out of no where.
The mission to harvest 3 hogs, in the Ledyanoy Bay. I was tracking the herd, and they popped out of no where as I got close to a rest sight. I would really like to see these bugs fixed. As they did spoil the hunt and the immersion.

So many moose, need a bigger gun. Kind of.
For a good period I used the 270 Stradivaruis as my main rifle. I have subsequently swapped over to the 7mm and gave to 308 a go. However, I kinda think the moose are a little too tough. Would like a rifle, with either 7mm or 308, with more than the one round.

Grankins Shotgun :D
Okay that was fantastic. Picking up his shotgun.
I’d seen that shotgun in the store. I thought it was acquired through a challenge like the challenge for the Stradivarius.
When I went into the cabin, I didn’t notice it at first, then when I turned around and saw it. I thought it was going to be a place holder. Like the ATV earlier in the mission. But when I picked it up and I became available in my inventory.
Please more of that!
I would really like to see some of the future weapons or equipment become available to the player through a mission. Rather than just buying it and loading it into my inventory. I’ve been day dreaming of something like that for a while. Really hoping you do more missions like that. Where we get a reward at the end.

I have put down the rifles for a while and I’m going to use that as I haven’t used the shotguns at all. However I’ll probably go to Hirsch and hunt some deer till I can use the Slugs for the shotgun.
(I kinda think those should have been available sooner, as I can’t really use buckshots on a moose.
I tried, 20m away both barrels and only a flesh wound and very light bleed. I gave up on that one.)

Open lodges :D

Being able to go into the lodges and resting in the actual bed, awesome :)
It’s a tiny thing but thanks devs that was so nice. All the structure up until now were closed off even though you clearly created assets inside the structures. Was so nice to get out the cold and have a mooch. Would really like to see more of the insides of structures.
If you could create things which we could do inside, I feel it would be a nice touch. Eating to restore health or something.

Bigfoot
Oh you :)

All in all. I’m enjoying Medved. I really like some of the additions you made. It’s lovely place, and the atmosphere is both wonderful, and a white nightmare of invisible trotting in the distance. I kinda think the map isn’t as big as the rest. It feels like it should be a bit bigger. I don’t know much about reindeer, but I keep hoping to see a large herd of them soon, but they could just be hiding in the bushes so will keep an eye out.

Great work so far. Really hoping you keep creating more AAA DLC for this game. Need those slugs!!!

So it is from a mission. I will get there then. I have been bouncing between maps working on the missions. Maybe I will stay on Taiga until I get that one done. Do you remember the name of the mission? Hopefully I didn't already do that one and just missed the shotgun.

the mission was "meeting gregory grankin"

Most of the missions are go there missions, but there are two mission which can be a head ache.
The 2 boar hunting mission, and photographing a lynx.

I was tracking the boars but didn't see them. Was getting fed up tracking when I came close to a resting area and the boars spawned out of no where. A few ran away but four of them staired at me and gave me the angry roar...I highly suggests having the 45-70. Was chaos!

There is also a mission to photograph a lynx. That wasn't easy. The lynx i photographed was definately effected by the mission parameters. It didn't run away like the regular lynx's. I guess to give the player a chance. But i had to hide in the dense bush, so it couldn't see me, I used the preditor caller and it got 10 m away before the photograph registered. So don't be surprised if you take the photo and nothing happens, you need to get reall close!

Was so freshing to get a weapon through a mission. Need those slugs!!
Also feeling like i should have put a spoiler warning on this thread.
Hopefully you can't end the mission without picking it up :)

My Journey through Medved Taiga thus far, extended.
Again this is just some player feedback.
Well done EW and the development team of COTW, well done indeed.

Okay firstly.
I like how you are evolving the story in the game.
In classic we would just turn up in a reserve. No explanation, just there, ready to hunt.
In Hirsch and Layton we got a little introduction from Doc or Conni to the reserves. But with the missions you developed for Medved, you have made the player, the protagonist of the hunter world.
As players we now have Alena sending us personal requests, like Doc or Conni. But through the story missions I have done for Alena I feel, I’m now the main man in Medved. And I've been introduced to important locations, history and people.

I liked the way the missions introduced us in a logical circular way around the reserve. I started in one place, got told go here, then here. Having completed the final story mission, I have moved through each section/area and now I'm ready to enjoy the side missions and enjoy my hunting in the reserve.

I really hope you continue to create and make the story missions for each new reserve like this one. Where we are given incentive to move to key placed areas. Lodges, outlook points.
And get spoken to as though the characters know who we are and what we did in the other reserves.
Continuing to build and develop our characters mythos in the hunter game.

Grankin, I would really like to see a new weapon or caller become available through the missions, as any one can do the mission as they wish too. There won’t be any problem with players not being able to unlocked said item if it’s through a mission rather than a challenge that is time and date dependent.

That last mission (SPOILER)

That cave is clearly a skull in the map view :-D who ever thought that was a good idea was RIGHT :) it’s like an Easter egg, I was half expecting to find treasure. (If I’d know it was that aggressive I would have had the camera out first. I panicked and out came the Rhino.)
And the view at the end was the cherry on the cake. Again you left me happy looking at the area I can enjoy, and as Alena said at the end, treat it as your home. Confirming to the player it‘s another reserve to enjoy. No restriction on hunting nenets reindeer.

I liked the length of the mission and the number of mission in the story. It felt right for the areas you pointed me towards.

The camera could really do with a range finder, and maybe have the person we are in contact with actual let us know how close in we need to get. I took so many pictures of the same Lynx as I got closer, I’m going to have to delete a few of them at some point. But I liked how you set that one up, the lake was nice and wide and I saw it for sooner than it saw me. As it’s a photo mission I felt you did it well.

As I said before, I was so glad we can walk into the lodges. The outhouses gave me a giggle. Although I kept expecting to find something inside as an easter egg.

Through my hunt leading to this post I didn’t have as any bugs happen. Not as many bugs, I don’t know if you’ve changed something, maybe the game was more stable. Might be because this time I was specifically trying to complete the mission, rather than getting side tracked.

I only started wearing the fur coat recently. Worked with the environment. Was glad it didn’t effect my characters sound or visual profile in a negative way.

I would like to see something done with the place around Christmas time. Don’t know if you can put Christmas lights on certain trees around the reserve. Just imagine the colours.

Something I would like to see in the next reserve.
Those concealed blinds or the lookup stands, that we come across and can erected with in game currency.
I’d like it if we could fix the run down shacks that are scattered in the reserve. The bridge mission for the Nenet’s. It got me thinking.
It would be nice if we fixed up in game structures which then became interactive in some way. Maybe we create a make shift hunting blind, or perch. But something which has a function upon activating.

I stopped wearing the small pouch, and it has made a big difference.
I gotta ask, would you be able to reduce the sound and visual penalty for the small.
As an item, for it’s size it makes me to easy to detect.

Please can we get a musk deer caller at some point?

Well I got loads more of Medved to explore, and a few side mission to complete and need to check all the out houses I can find lol
Again devs well done worth it. Thank you.
