Animal movement sounds
I find it totally unrealistic when hunting you can hear the sound of one animal footsteps as they approach.
When you hear a moose while hunting it is usually the sound of branches breaking, or antlers rubbing or thrashing through the trees and brush.
Whitetails, and I assume Blacktails, are very quite, never hear them comming other than maybe a small twig breaking when they step on it. Upon being startled, or when they smell you, they will stomp one foot to alert other deer in area. But you never hear footsteps like in the game.
I find this to be very immersion breaking

Balckbears are like ghosts, no noise and sight unseen.

What I would assume is realistic, is the sound of a heard of startled animals. Now that you should be able to hear as they run off, and you do.

IRL sometimes squirrels sound like elephants walking throught the forests. It really matters how well you can hear the animals if they're on dry leaves you'll almost surely hear them coming but if it's right after a rain in a field of grass. You MIGHT be able to hear them close.

Please, got over 40 yrs hunting Whitetails irl, If they are walking, you don't hear them until they are real close. And definately not anywhere near the sound they make in this game.

key word is "Game". I dont think this was intended to be a realistic hunting sim. too many aspects indicate they want to balance this between a acrade and a RL sim. Thus the noise made in the game is appropriate. They should have the settings open to the player to allow us to choose how realistic or arcade like we want to play/experience.

Not only that, but in a game even meant to be a realistic as possible some things must be done a bit different and a little artistic license given to how they act in reality just because of the limits you have being on a computer and seeing things on a monitor compared to how your ears and eyes etc work in real life.

Oh please, you make it sound like you would need a PHD in Audio Acoustics.

But the thing is you can. Either you A) aren't listening B) have shoot your gun too much without ear protection, or C) have deer that have learned to be stealthy like ninja's, if it is that I would consider have a petition signed to tear down you local dojo. Have you never heard what sound those squirrels can make??? Let alone what a 200 pound buck can make on dry leaves.

Here's a few videos of a deer walking on leaves:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfMfN9NMrbM

That one is recorded with a trail cam which don't have great audio.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZLhGHtuTG4

a bear on a trail camera.

Couldn't find videos on your ninja deer might need to contact Fish and Game for that...

Now these are close range i suppose mainly because

1) People don't post many videos of animals just walking through the woods.

2) If people do it's usually on trail cams.

But most of the times for a close shot in the woods it will be somewhat short.

But IMO you haven't lived until you've got a squirrel coming down the trail like a bull elephant and you thinking it's a 10 point buck.

Where were you when I said I have over 40 yrs hunting whitetails, it ain't like I have never been in the woods.
And yes they can make noise, more so on frozen ground, but not all the time, and not every deer is 200 lbs.

I'm just saying it is excessive.

No squirrels are over 200 pounds either but you still hear them. You're just making it seem like deer fly around the woods and don't walk. Don't even get me started on how long I've hunted animals. I've hunted from the West to here in Iowa and Nebraska. Grew up on a family farm too. All animals make noise especially in dry leaves, grass, etc. And what do you see on Hirschfelden? That's right, dry leaves and grass! Even in Layton Lake you'd be able to hear animals fairly well.

Whatever dude, have a good day
deer on ice dont make sound or in snow. they make noise in dry leves, rocks an sometime frozen dirt. i think the game noise is great as where its at but can be improved

If the snow is a couple days old and "crusted" over you'll hear them in a foot snow too.

You too.

Here's a couple nice bucks on my property that I'll be chasing:

If I catch them in the woods in October or November I almost guarantee I'll hear these big boys coming.

yup - fresh powdered snow supresses sound pretty good.

A few days old and slightly frozen snow has a nice crisp crunch when you step on it - doesn't matter how big or small you are - in snow that has frozen over - you are going to make some noise.

I can't tell which direction sounds are comming from...does the game have surround sound...??..if so I need a new headset..but I 'm totally confused and wind up turning around and around looking for whatever is making all the footsounds...somtimes I can tell what it is but never the direction

I really shake my head when people say its just a game. Its a hunting sim.
