Basic Google Search says very much otherwise:

EDIT: And to be fair. You don't 'run around' hunting with a .50 BMG. The weapon is used in extreme range hunting, and is a very exacting and fickle shooting activity. If it is to be denied to us, I would see it more being denied because the game engine can't load animals at 1,500 to 2,000 meters. Not because you think this would be ARMA with animals.
Still want one.
They're used more rarely than a .30-06 because the rifles are crazy expensive, the ammo is expensive, and there aren't nearly as many places to hunt with the distance needed to handle the energy and range of a .50 bmg missing a target.
If a .30-06 misses, it might go a few hundred yards.
If a .50BMG misses, it might go a few miles, and still hit with enough force to blow a hole in the engine block of a car.
What better place to have it than a GAME when real life makes it difficult to use?
Also do we really want a .50 BMG in the game although this is just a game the animal rights activists would look very poorly on this thinking it's just sick man going out and hunting poor bambi for sport. Need I remind you they made a "cooking mama game" based on how "cruel" the game is? Even though this is a game they would more than surely use that against us.
30-06 - 2,900 ftlbs
375 H&H - 4,500 ftlbs
404 Jeffery - 4,000 ftlbs
416 Rigby - 5,800 ftlbs
458 Win - 5,000 ftlbs
505 Gibbs - 6,000 ftlbs
50 BMG - 14,000+ ftlbs
The .50 BMG is more than 3 times as big as the .375 which is a very popular big game round in Africa. So unless you plan to shoot some elephants from a couple thousand yards there's absolutely no use and considering the render distance is only around 500 m. there's no use.
All the arguments about activists is so much smoke and mirrors really. I have the perfect rebuttle for them.
Bring them to Texas, drop them into some Wild Hog. Let them make happy with the 'cute little piggies'. (Protip: Reverse Bacon Syndrom)
As for the overkill factor... It's a .50. Even if it doesn't do as much expanding internal trauma, it's a half inch hole right through the body. Between that hole, and fluid shock, potential strikes to bone, the animal is dropping. Sure, there's the chance of the round hitting something so non-vital that the animal can survive and bolt, but the game mechanics make chasing it down, easy. And it'll bleed out anyway from that large an injury to any central mass hit.
I don't think it's wise to post a link, but remember, this is the round that rips goats in half.
Honestly, aside from the 500 yard render limit, there's no real argument against it that I don't have a counter for, and if we're scared of PETA being upset because we're shooting virtual animals with overpowered virtual weapons, then you've already lost the war and should just kneel before them.
Heck, I invite PETA to come to my house and protest. I look forward to watching them waste their time and money to come picket me over something that doesn't actually exist.
