Dear God please tell me I can mute the dog
The dog is very useful, the Bloodhounds tracking capabilities are fantastic even if looking at the ugly bastard makes me physically ill. I can handle it looking like an elderly scrotum but it's sounds are getting on my nerve. I understand dogs are annoying, but so is the electronic caller and I can mute that thing.

Please tell me there's some way to mute my dog so I don't have to listen to it's stupid slobber noises, breathing, growling (I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ know the animal is alerted) and most of all it's impatient ass barking at me to hurry up when it's tracking.

Edit: I was very annoyed when typing that, and as I'm typing this I'm annoyed again and will probably just kennel the bastard. Here are two perfect examples of why i want to mute the dog

People in glass houses etc. etc. :steammocking:...But out of curiosity...why would you want to mute a caller?

Care to elaborate on your glass houses comment? As for why you'd want to mute a caller; it's noisy. The constant calls can get annoying, and it makes it harder to listen to audio cues from actual animals. Which is the same thing the dog does, but, the game lets me mute the caller. So, why not the dog?
My mistake mate...I didn't realise there was an option in the audio settings to mute the caller...very useful to know, thanks...I thought you meant you were putting the caller down but keeping it turned off lol.

I live and learn.

All good. I wanna mute the dog like you can the caller lol. Options in the audio setting, it's a 0-100 range, making it 0 mutes it completely but it still functions
you can always get the dog to lay down. It is pretty much silent then.

What's bothering you?

I can't remember the bloodhound ever annoying me. I love his happy barking when he finds the harvest. I usually even used it for less then 100 meters just to make him happy XD

I like to have him around.

Yes, which is very helpful for hunting and stalking. But as soon as I need to move, so does he.

I'll just be fully transparent and say I don't like dogs. I know that's a heretical statement to some, but, I find them annoying.

My problem with the dogs in the game are exactly that, I find them annoying. They're very useful tools but having to listen to their noises is, again, annoying.

What's bothering me is the idle sounds they make, the whining when I'm about to startle something (95% of the time I'm aware I'm about to startle something. All the whining does is take my focus. It was useful once in my playtime so far) and the barking when I ask it to track something and it's waiting for me. It's hard to focus and listen when there's a dog in your ear.

The sounds aren't even useful as there's HUD elements that accompany them. It's nice for people who play without the HUD, sure. But if they can toggle the HUD I'd like to toggle the dogs sounds.

I'm not asking for the dog to be muted, I'm asking for the choice to mute the dog. So people like you who love dogs and want to hear his happy barking can have at it, while people like me who don't can turn it off.

Well, while I can't really understand why people don't like dogs, I can accept hat :D

I think the dog warning you is one of the most usefull things. Often you can't really see all animals and i like that he warns you.

For sure you often can't see all the animals, which is why I don't like Hirschfelden, too many damn hills. But, for me at least, the warning has been useful exactly one time. Every other time I've either already noticed it, it gave me a warning call or just fled. And again there's a HUD element for it, so even if I muted the dog I would still have the warning.

Command the dog to lay down or sit and they won't make any noise.

They only make a noise when they find a track or are warning you that an animal is close.

Press "R" to mute the electronic caller.

That only works for so long, then they'll get up again and move when you get too far away.

No, they also occasionally make noise passively. Breathing, slobber noises, that sort of thing.

And I know how to mute the caller, I specifically used that as an example of an annoying thing you CAN mute. But, thank you.

And for people saying to just tell them to lay down:

With all due respect, I would say that the dog DLCs are probably not for you if they cause you this much anxiety.

On the plus side, it is possible to play the game just fine without them.

Since the sounds are there for a practical reason (to communicate what the dog is doing), and for immersion, I don't see the developers removing them any more than they will remove the sound of the weapons when fired or the sound of brush rubbing against your clothing when you walk through it.

I would agree the dogs are not for me. Wish I knew how annoying they were before I bought it.

It is yeah, but they are very useful tools.

And I don't follow that logic. We can mute the electronic caller, I should be allowed to mute the dog.
