Id like to see if there is any interest in Muskox. Seems to be a simple question to me. I hadn't considered the endangered factor here because I wasn't aware the Muskox was endangered.
Wasn't there an episode recently on one of those survival reality shows where a contestant killed a Muskox?
I did not think they were on the endangered list. That would make a difference I suppose, although again, the whole debate between game preservation versus social preservation still remains a viable forum.
Why someone would choose to label me personally because I wanted to see what others might think about being able to hunt the Muskox in the Yukon says far more about their character than mine. And those who are lacking in that regard I just don't have the time of day for.
I'm not looking to be combative, or trolling, or spamming anything at all. As I've been recently hunting Bison in the Yukon, and am also aware that many players feel there should be more animals in that map, i thought to myself how cool it would be to see that particular species wandering around in small herds.
They are an amazing looking animal.
Plain and simple.
The discussion doesn't have to be about the moral aspects, and we certainly don't need the troublemakers hijacking our threads.
Is it possible to set aside judgmental attitudes in order to ask questions without having trolls and people that may not like you for some foolish reason take our efforts in this forum right down the drain with their crap?
Hi James, thanks for responding appropriately.
I really wasn't aware the Muskox was endangered.
But you might be right. I quickly checked just now and apparently there are categories of endangerment and it falls under 'least concerned'.
So I don't know what that says to its protected status or it being an option for EW.
And like I said there is always the ongoing debate involving pest animal control, etc that actually can be a positive factor in preserving some species. Which was also noted in some of the species used in this game already.
But don't you think it would just be cool to be able to encounter these hairy elusive giants as we trek across our map?
Side note: Since EW is based in Stockholm, Sweden, and Sweden only has a handful of Muskox roaming in the country (30-40?), it probably feels extra delicate whether or not to put them in a hunting game... 😉
This gets my award.
Ahh, yes, u cud have a point there James.
And like you, I enjoy both os these maps intensely. They just seem to offer that extra change of territory and immersion needed sometimes when a change in terrain is desirable at just the right moment in time.
The Yukon map has always been right up there in my top few favorites.
Thanks for your high quality discussion. Please block me, please!!! You don't have to gather a following to do this. Or is that exactly what you're hoping for?
Nvm, I'll solve your dilemma for you. I'll do you a favor and block you. You're new here and haven't really offered much yet, but from this post I don't think I'll be missing much.
guess ill have to check that out for myself, taking into consideration what james said about them possibly being more threatened in sweden than here in canada.

Strange animal :-) Merely present in Sweden.

Yet, one can find plenty of expeditions to hunt Muskox in Alaska, but that isn't Yukon.

I've spotted 5 in my entire life and I've been hiking in the Nordic mountain ranges for 30 years...
they have skunk glands and are probably more vicious than anything else in their habitat. full grown grizzlies wont even mess with these things because theyre so fearless when it comes to protecting their carrion.
and their fur is prised by the aboriginals for their water resistant qualities.
add to that extremely high intelligence compared to most other animals of that family and you have the top of the food chain predator.
