start with Taiga, it has very easy missions, and also has the smallest map so the animals seem to be more easily spawnable, I'm working on it now myself and already to level 16

just watch out for Gray Wolves

I would recomend layton lakes. It has everything in it to learn the game, build up perks, skill points and earn cash to get the weapons you will need for bigger and dangerous game. Got over 2000 hours in game.

I agree. Layton has big open areas, so you can spot game fairly easily as well, rather than creeping through thick patches only seeing tracks or nothing.

I agree too. Layton is the perfect map for learning the game, maybe also SRP. You only need a DLC weapon for the big game (probably the new power pack), if you don´t want to wait until all base game weapons are unlocked. I would not recommend Medved and CC for the beginning, because they are full of wolves.

I'd start with layton. I didn't allow myself onto a new reserve until I'd done all the missions. By the end of it I had an intimate knowledge of the reserve and the impact of starting the next one were intensified. It also made each reserve seem very different. Something I didn't get once I started flitting between them.

Moving to a DLC map will not solve the problems you face. The starter maps are fine.
In my humble opinion the first purchases you should make is the modern weapons DLC for the 308 and the other one which gives you the Grelck drilling rifle.
That way you do not have to wait to raise money and skills in order to get the better rifles in game.
The tents DLC is also excellent. Along with the bloodhound. Although you can live without those they do make life easier.
The Duck and cover DLC is also good when you start out as its an easy way to make money but gets boring real fast.

Basically rather than buying maps buy content. Now should that content be part of the base game? I would say yes but its not up to me.

After you master the base maps then Vurhonga is where the fun is at. You will get eaten by a lion at some point :)

I think Te Awaroa New Zealand is the ultimate map to go at first. There are 3 species of deer, all that can be harvested with a 4-8 weapon. There are no predators to worry about spooking game or attacking you. The Red Deer great one grind will pay for every single Tent, firearm, accessories and Tripods for all the maps by the time you most likely get a great one. I've made over 5 million credits doing my Red Deer grind.

If you are a lake hunter that hunts drinking times, the lakes are closer together than most maps and there are less bodies of water to set up grinds on. The topography is easier to navigate with less super deep woods you can't see game through and less mountains or other hard to manage ground.

There is a lot of open ground where you can see game a long distance away. For load out I suggest the .308 Semi, the .22 Semi and the Ranger .243. You'll be able to hunt all game on the map with that load out. I still think the Moonlight .308 Semi auto is the best 4-8 rifle in the game. I at times can get up to 3 or 4 animals from a single zone herd before they scatter. The other rifles I average 1 or 2 animals each zone. This is the least frustrating map, and it never gets boring.

It has wild pigs which will attack. I have been killed by wild pigs and wild boar more than any other animal. Usually in long grass when I stumble upon them and don't get to see them before they charge.

Layton lake is the first but also one of the longest. Unless you're sleeping and going out at specific times, if you play normally it will take you like 50 hours to complete layton mission line.

Specifically the nighttime fox missions.
