Is this an unusual rack for a Whitetail Great One?
After 8,000 kills and 200+ diamonds, it finally came together. Got it on Layton and yes, it is my first GO. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2955516297

Gratulations, a nice one!

But 8000+ is a lot. Just out of curiosity..did you try any kind of herd management?

Herd management was key for all the diamonds. What to do with the diamonds is another story. At first I tried to stack a bunch (6 to 16) and then release them simultaneously. All that did was release a ton of level 1's at one time. Then I realized I could use those level 1's to close up a lot of the harder to get to watering holes. Which streamlined my "runs" (8:00am to 12:00pm). Making my "runs" quicker and more productive. Equaling even more diamonds.
My final strategy was to keep around 6 diamonds at all times and only take one or two per run.

My success could just have been random luck or due to my strategy.

I will add one thing about why it took so many kills for me. I think when I first started this game. About two weeks in, when I didn't know squat about anything. I think I remember having an opportunity to shoot a whitetail great one on a small lake. Waited to long lining up the shot and missed out. This whitetail comes all the way across the lake and actually attacks me. It's bouncing around like a psychotic kangaroo so I got no shot on it. I emptied my weapon pretty quickly and didn't have enough experience to reload and get busy again. This animal truly punked me out and made me question my manhood for several weeks. I guess you could say my grind was revenge for that.

Don´t get me wrong, 200+ diamonds and a GO are a good thing and great success, but this kind of herd management might have avoided an earlier GO spawn. Stacking diamonds is a good idea in general, but only for a certain period. The population always tries find a balance. If you stack the 3s, this produces a lot of 1s. After you shot the 3s, the 1s enforce the spawn of a GO. If you keep 6 diamonds permanently - what you should not do - it probably avoids an earlier GO spawn.

Yes that is normal great one rack. There are others as well with one being a tangilly mess. I got three. two from layton and one in rancho. I did lake hoping and river cruising killing every male for months. I have killed thousands of animal. Have lots of diamonds and various fur types. Right now I am searching for the moose and bear great ones. I dont farm anymore I am just wandering opening need zones, looking at tracks. opening up the new england map. Been away from playing for a while. You never know when great ones going to spawn, the rancho one was day after map became available by total luck.a bob cat spooked him toward me.
