The thing with the DLC weapons has been tossed around for awhile. There have been a few posts complaining that the gear is free and there is nothing to work for...then there are the ones from your point of view. The general consensus is either an on/off toggle or slider so it'll make both sides happy.
The 338 is 7-9, the 7mm is 4-9, and the 308 is 4-8.
The 338 polymer tip ammunition may be locked until you reach a certain XP level and/or rifle score, though
As for trophies, I've not bothered to even taxidermize anything yet. Everything I earn from harvests has gone into weapons and other equipment, and at the moment every in-game dollar I have will be going to get the .300 Magnum soon.
Thanks for the info Victoria.
I went with the Yukon to get the .300 Magnum as it is nearly as powerful as the 338 with more accuracy and that DLC was cheaper than the Power Pack plus I get another reserve.
I'm one of those people that only buys games and particularly DLC when it is on special with 50% or more off (yeah, it's only a couple of dollars, but it's something I stick to). Even games that are years old are still infinitely more impressive than anything I had as a youngster and I'm a frugal and patient man.
I'll work with what I've got for a while and if the Power Pack comes up on special again, and I feel I need something even more than the .300 Magnum, I'll pick it up.
YW :)
Oh, that's a valid approach to a lot of things in life.
Good luck and good hunting :)
As far as DLC goes, you can get by just fine with the default weapons. They each fill a niche.
The 7mm is single shot, but will cover a huge range of classes 4-9, just aim for the lungs and use polymer bullets. It doesn't really struggle until you get up to water buffalo.
When you need more power, you'll actually do really well with the 454 Rhino pistol.
Unlock that and the pistol scope. Power-wise it's better than most rifles. Good for classes 4-9, multiple shots, and easily takes down any animal in the game including water buffalo and lions. The only down-side is you don't get quite as much range as a rifle.
The only thing stronger than the Rhino is the 470 King from the Vurhunga DLC - and honestly, it's a bad rifle. You can't put a scope on it so iron sites only, limited to 2 rounds, and unlocking the gun and buying bullets are stupidly expensive.
I'm still a beginner in COTW at just over 120 hours so far.
That's pretty much what i'm doing.... but have yet to get a diamond anywhere.
Thanks for the tips.
I've avoided blinds, tripods etc so far. I find that on the few occasions I've done the "wait for them to come", they never bloody do and I end up going for a walk and stumble upon a stack of game just around the corner. Ha ha ha.
While I'm chatting here, I've just gotten the backpacks with climbing gear in Silver Ridge Peaks. Will this stuff make more noise and visibility like if I used a backpack for more loadout?
The backpacks will greatly increase your visibility and the noise you make so even the level 1 animals will know you're coming from a mile away. The only time backpacks are really useful is when you're moving around the map and setting up lots of tents or other equipment.
Yeah. Backpacks are bad. There's no real reason to use them unless you're carrying tents out to a remote location. ... I've honestly never used the climbing gear.
The blinds on SRP are those prebuilt shacks. Check the zone times nearby and be in the shack before the animals arrive. You're essentially invisible while you're in the shack.
The detection mechanics in this game are poorly explained. You'll need this if you're wandering around:

I was kind off hoping to at least get to slide down the rope when that one ended.
All quest items take up zero space and have no effect on sight & sound. The fetch and deliver quests get more numerous and the go here & shoot this quests pretty much end as the maps get newer.
