COTW has a lot of options catering for many play-styles.
All the map DLC's are fantastic in my book, and at the same time the base maps (Layton and Hirsch) provide for 100's of hours of gameplay. COTW is kind of sandboxy, but still have a progression ladder with skills, perks etc. It is hard to grasp the amount of content unless you have played for a couple of years, at least.
I suggest you get the base game first to try out the mechanics and options available to you, then look out for additions. There is literally 1000's of hours worth of gameplay with all DLC's available. I'm sure more hunter-fellas will chime in with suggestions on good value bundles that lets you start out with a greater package.
As MAGE said, if you can get a bundle on sale for such a low price, it's worth it. Even if you don't find it engaging at first, but keep it anyway, you are not out a lot of money, and you can come back to it.
Worst case scenario - you ask Steam for a refund. Never having done that, I don't know how much trouble that is, but I hear that they will do it.
What you can do is watch some of EW's streams, by JaxyBeard, on YouTube, especially the ones that showcase the various maps and what you can do, without a lot of spoilers.
I was already playing a game called Hunting Simulator 2, which is a nice relaxing open world hunting game that I was enjoying. When I discovered COTW, I watched a couple of showcase streams, and bought the best bundle available, and all the other DLCs as well - this was on my PS4. When Way of the Hunter came out last year, it was not available on PS4, so I bought it on Steam for my PC, and figured I'd buy COTW for PC as well - everything.
but remember if you have a friend that has the DLC maps, then you can multiplay on he's map. even if you do not have the DLC map yourself.
Only thing you can not use the maps , if you want to play solo.
but hunter map DLC is one of the cheepest extra DLC i ever seen on games. so i would say well worth it. but the new maps are definitiv better then some of the old one.
The worst map for me is the american alligator map. feel it is so small and littel to do on it.
also the ATV i feel is a must, make it faster to explore
