I live near both irl and this is also true for me. Realism.

I was living in W. Germany back in the 60s and got chased up trees by Wilde Swine more than a few times. In the early 70s I got run up into horse apple trees (they have 3" long thorns btw) by Javalina hog herds several times. They were very exciting times but not a whole log of fun at the time.

Alligator attacks on adult humans are extremely rare IRL (about a 1 in 2.4 million chance of being seriously injured by an alligator in Florida - Mississippi would be lower - according to the best statistics I can find). Even with humans increasingly living in or beside alligator habitat, there is only about 1 fatality per year. I'm glad the game didn't try to "action it up" and make them unrealistically aggressive.

They should, however, have no qualms about eating your dog.

I got ran over by a gator when in swamp after I shot one during resting time. It came running from behind me heading toward the water. I was in crouched position and I dont think it even knew I was there till it ran into me. I then shot it before it got to the open water. it died in water went belly up and floated back to me. Like in real life they are more afraid of us and flee easy.
