Tiger Attack on Herd!
Today on my very first minutes on the game I saw something I had never seen before.
A real predator chase!

I rezzed in my tent near a lake. Was full day. I nearly immediately heard a stampede of animals and saw a herd of Barasinghas running past my tent I was still in.
Next second as I was preparing gun to get some I saw why they were running like mad.
It was not my arrival that had scared them. They had a Bengal Tiger on their six!

Changed gun asap, jumped out of my tent. Aimed at tiger and shot. He ran in bushes.
I followed trail. And found him dead. My Arzina .300 had done it's job.
That was a amazing sight! Never seen before in years on COTW.

Did any of you witness a true predator attack as I did today? Was impressive.

This might have changed, but "chasing" is normally done in a small area and happens whether other animals are present or not. Basically a need zone animation.
Other animals can go aggressive towards predators (without actually harming them) or flee (without being in danger of actually getting killed).
Assuming this is still the case, the tiger would have either moved in that direction by coincidece or was actually stalking YOU as we have been told the latter is a game mechanic and people seem to have experienced it (but that would have been apparent from the animation perhaps).

But if the tigers really do pursue other animals of the map population, that would be a cool feature (which would probably wreak havoc on the tigers' and other animals' location, as a chase could cary on over the whole extent of the map, unless it is limited to happen in the proximity of the player, so my guess would be that it only seemed that way).

Tiger chasing animals is indeed a thing. I saw a tiger chase nilgai around a lake. After several laps I put an end to it. But they really are locked in that activity, they ran past me rather close but took no notice.

I stand corrected, then. Sounds like a nice detail.

I've never seen it but i'm glad to know it's in the game since i've only seen a tiger in the bushes after hearing it growl. The herd mechanic in Africa was great too, I wonder if lions do it too?

it was all a decoy while another tiger was sneaking up on tent OP

:D

I witnessed a Snow leopard chasing a few Blue Sheep up in the mountains a few days ago.
It was too fast to get a shot at it!

Would this mean that with the last reserve they would also have made a update on predators behavior? Maybe worth checking back on Africa if female lions now hunt Springbox.

FYI, on any map with predators, if they are disrupting your hunt, just kill it but Do Not harvest until you are done hunting. This keeps the AI from respawning another predator right away. It takes the game awhile to pick up in harvested kills.

I think the behavioral programming of those India animals might be different than previous animals. Water buffalo might be a bit more aggressive as the Yak is very aggressive. And the lion's will attack but will usually flee when they detect you where the tiger will definitely hunt you down.

I have seen a mountain lion chase a herd of elk or mule deer and seen a lion chase herds of wildebeest in the game
While stalking tahr with a bow, a lvl 8 snow leopard busted out of the brush chasing the bull i was after; was pretty surreal.
