It drops so quick i don't even know what this mechanic is meant to be for. It's utterly useless.
My dog performs well tho. If i track he always tells me if i'm about to spook the animal and need to lie down.
I don't really call him often or anything. Only when i hunt fowl i will tell him to lay down. He also tracks down dead animals for me.
I dont usually track wounded animals because mostly i only take safe shot but he did a good job on this as well.
Aside from that any other interaction like praise or call him to heel or even give him a treat is purely for the sake of immersion.
He will perform well on the lowest level of bond if you let him starve all the time.
You don't need level 3 for nothing. Just ignore the dog.
It doesn't need praise. It doesn't need treats. It just is. That's my outlook on the dog.
I have it with me all the time but I mostly ignore it until I need it. It's always there when I look around for it and sometimes I'll make it heel, but I don't pay any special attention to it unless it makes a noise. It does that for a reason and I've been alerted to nearby animals many times by it. It's a great tracker and a pretty good hunter, but I don't expect much more from it because it's not capable of much more.
:)
I agree with the other comment and have seen several people post about having it sit if you want to feed it. I struggled with that until I saw people explaining that.
I can second this as well. This is what i meant with my post. You can just let the dog be most of the time and you're fine.
He should still function propperly if there is any need.
When you first start a session, just play/pet the dog until you get the full stars. After that, the dog will give a little bark when some time has past and it's lost a star. If you praise it immediately after that, the star will go back. If you wait too long, however, you'll need to pet him instead.
You don't really need to give the dog biscuits. It works just fine with praise and pets.
