"A Wounded Heart" mission. Archery woes

So,

I have invested more time in this mission than I should probably admit. I was hoping it will train me into a better understanding of archery in this game.

The thing with this mission, is you need a heart shot on a Red Deer, with a Bow or Crossbow. I went to the range and messed around with it for quite some time. I was pretty confident I had a good feel for it. Seemed to be getting the results I wanted repeatedly.

Then I go out to hunt the Red Deer, and chaos ensues. Some of my shots seem SO off from what I was experiencing in the range, I am convinced this game is even more hardcore than I realized, and its taking into account physical properties that I did not consider (air density, air moisture, aliens...lol)

I am kidding here, but seriously, i don't know what the issue is. I am a great shot with guns, and again, see range comment above.

Has anybody, in general, suffered with bows/crossbows in this game? I cannot figure this out

Welp without using the rangefinder sight on the bows you can use it on, you are out of luck. The last update messed up all the bows that do not use that certain sight. Its the only one i use now.

I use the 70# bow with rangefinder sight only since the update.

interesting, and thank you for the input. I definitely was not using that. I will have to go look into that and see if it helps.

Oh it will help. You can use that sight with any of the compound bows, and the Hawk breakdown i think is is, that one is a recurve.

Just make sure you get the arrows for compounds, your gonna have to ditch the traditional arrows. :(

From what I understand is the archery is bugged, I have read that the "zeroing" perk will fix. You don't need to equip it, just spend the point to get it, or as previously posted, use the rangefinder sight.

Ya. I am wondering if this is the only way to figure this out, as I have now tried another 3.5 hrs or so, with absolutely zero luck, at all. It is so strange though, because the range, i get the results I expect. Once I am in game, everything falls apart.

This is annoying. In any event, I am moving on. thanks for the help, but there is no point fighting broken mechanics, if that is the case, and I believe it is.

edit - I got the range finder sight, the exact same thing is happening. Archery in this game is just.....painful right now. I want my 10 hrs back.

Maybe to high demands on the CPU/GPU might sometimes be the answer because after 5000 Hr Orpheus 65 compund bow and range finder whitout errors I scratch my head when I read this.

Wind direction is also a source of error, try to be facing the wind head on. As soon as the wind is blowing left or right of you it will introduce drift. Try to get as close as possible without spooking the deer so as to reduce flight path deviation even more.

Heart shots are some of the most difficult things to achieve in CotW. I'm stuck with a coyote mission with heart shots at night with moving targets... with a firearm, but that doesn't help much. lol
