Question to the Developers: Option to set the Render/Visible Animal Distance?
Dear Developers,

we would love to know why.

There are a few Topic`s with no really Information`s from your Site.
Wide-Range-Shooting is really Fun in this Game; even if you hit about 5% of all Shots.

Thanks to the Modification from "MetalHeron" on NexusMods you can bump up the Distance up to around 750 Meters.
Even this Range is reachable and some People wish sometimes another 100 to 150 extra Meters (and yes, there are Dreams to get the 1000.01 Meters Shot).

So my Question is, like the Title says:
Why is there no Option to set the Render/Visible Animal Distance?
Would be it possible to get such an Option into the Game through an Update?

We would love to get a Answer.

Thank you very much in Advance :smileud:

Why don't you email them? Odds are they won't even see it here. And, who is "We"?

Because i hope that some Developers look sometimes into the Discussions.
Good Idea; i will do it too. "We" is a Group of People which play this Game together.

This. Animal render distance doesn't bother me as much as short-rendered grass in open areas

+1 I would like for them to increase the animal render distance. This topic is NOT about grass.

Because who can actually see more than 500m in given circumstances?

Example Savanna. I live in Savanna and you can barely see 600m ahead, why? Because of how it is shaped ... slopes, mountains, bushveld, trees ect prevents you from seeing clearly anyway.

Layton Lake is so full of vegetation, you cant see 300m ahead clearly unless looking across a lake or open field. Yes some mountains alow to view prob 2km of population, but no one can see that far, let alone shoot. No one goes hunting and takes shots from 1km away.

It`s not about seeing with your Eyes so far, there are Scopes and Binoculars.
Of course it would be nice, if the Vegetation would have a Distance-Slider too.

But it is not necessary like the Animal-Render-Distance to get some Long-Range-Shots.

And for all People who think nobody is Hunting in Real-Life over 500 Meters.
Here you are:

Real Hunting from 300 up to about 1.350 Meters
(Long Range Hunting - 54 KILL SHOTS - Extreme Outer Limits TV)

Hits 50x50cm Plate at 2.100 Meters
(2.100 Meter (2.300 yards) shot with .338 Lapua Magnum | LONG RANGE GUYS)

No one is Hunting further than 500m in real life. Thise video only proves skill, not hunting. No normal person packs hes camping gear and go shoot animals 1km away for a hunting trip.

It is not about how far your eyes can see vs binocs ... it is about even with binocs you won't see further than 500m anyway beacuse of obstructions in your environment UNLESS you are higher than your obstructions, sure, then you'll see far with binocs ....

But again, even with a clear view at 500m or more, no one goes "yes, now lets hunt those springbucks"

Don't tell me we won't take the shots at 500m or futher away, because we wil. That will change the whole concept of the game

I previously was at 304m for that statistic, but since using the Render Distance Mod, I've now increased that stat to a nice 454m after nailing a Bear in the lungs on Layton Lakes.

See, that makes your stat invaluable vs people who actually shot without the MOD

Why would you be against a feature that would enhance the environment so much for many and not affect the way you choose to play for yourself?

Not against, just realistic.

Giving a slider will mean reprogramming whole game most likely. And that is not worth the effort as of yet because 80% of people playing this game has a low to mid range computer. Meaning 80% won't utilize the distance render vs CPU and GPU power.

The 20% most likely 10% would increase the distance while others wont.

It comes back to what I said that games are developed and catered towards certain hardware. Yes games being developed runs smooth on developers pc, but they have to keep the end result in mind and the majority of community and their computers. Hence the lower draw distance because it saves on performance and make potatoe PC still run this game.

Yes the MOD was made and it is working but it has its flaws. File corruptions, save file corruption and crashes are amongst the issues the MOD causes, why? Most likely people running the mod can not support it with their PC or because it is not coded as it should to work in conjunction with the game code.

What has this long range shooting to do with hunting? I understand it can be fun, but the devs aim to make the game as realistica s possible and real hunters don´t shoot over such vast distances.
And if you want something don´t write "we", speak for yourself.

Plus past render distance, animals become static targets that just stand still even when being shot. So it's not fair game really comparing your past render distance shot against someone who actually got a legit kill at long distance.

300+m heart shot is much more impressive than a 500+m static target not reacting as it should once shot.

It is not about long range shooting for me. I don't take many shots over 325 m & that would not change with increased render distance. What would change is the ability to spot animals & need zones at longer distance making the map feel more alive. It is not realistic to have them vanish at 400 m. Any RL hunter with decent optics can see deer sized animals well beyond 400 m.
El Dandy Aug 18, 2020 @ 10:22am
You should absolutely be allowed to spot and shoot animals at more than 420 meters. Youtube is full of videos of people downing animals at 500 meters +. However, even if you feel that one shouldn't shoot at these distances, one should be able to spot. When hunting many different types of animals, it's standard procedure to use high powered binoculars to spot animals far away, and decide which one you wish to stalk. For me, the game loses quite a bit of realism when animals become invisible at a distance where you'd normally see them.
