Treestand/tripods versus built hunting structures -- Scent reduction
I was not aware of this but after completing the mission in Hirsch called "Sommer's Bow" for the second time around, where you have to harvest a red fox with a bow. The lady actually tells you that hunting structures cover up scent. I do believe I was in a hunting structure when I shot the fox but that was not my first time harvesting from a hunting structure, so not sure what prompted her to say it. I went to the codex and it does indeed say that hunting structures affect an animals senses whereas the tripod/treestand is purely decreased visibility.

So there is a benefit to spending the 1700/2100 creds.

Tripods are worth it. I do not spend my money on the in game hunting blinds. You can take your tripod anywhere and set it up. If im in an unfamiliar area I will set my tripod up right next to the unbuilt hunting stand. Works the same and costs nothing.

The visibility limitations of the fixed structures makes them unappealing to me, compared to tripods. While they're often in a good general area, they seem like they're not in exactly the right spot. It is interesting to note that they affect scent! I'd generally place the tripod with the wind in mind though.

You can use your own tents as Blinds too if you prone on top of them, get a great view all around

Well it seems that standing in a specific spot on some, but not all of them, unbuilt hunting structures will give you the same visual benefits as if it was already built. It even works with missions that include hunting structures. Don't know anything about scent reduction.
I only tried it on LL. so far

I noticed that too--it's interesting that it's only some. I've seen it on Parque and Yukon as well, but again, only some of them. I reported this as a bug about a year ago and it was fixed, but I still check every now and again. I suppose I could report it again, but there are other things I'd prefer they focus on right now...

Yes, 100%. I've often thought that the hunting structures were placed by someone who had a good general idea where they should go but no actual hunting experience. Many times I've thought 'why isn't this stand 20m over that way?' or 'why is this blind set up so my scent moves toward the hunting zone for 80% of the day?'

purdy sure none of those offer any scent reduction.
But you are seen ( visual ) less often.
Only way to eliminate scent... is to be upwind.
Granted the game wind keeps changing in a matter of minutes of game play.
Often 380 degrees when things are critical.
And that is unrealistic to hunting.
Does wind direction in RL change... yeah sure.
But not as exaggerated as this game play.
It takes hours... Not minutes.

I am fairly sure the scent detector only works at ground level, so when you are up high on something its way less chance

Btw, when standing on one of the lumber piles that's not been purchased, not only is your visibility reduced, but hunting pressure is also quartered, so it's fully acting as a blind when not built.

As far as scent reduction. I am going by the Codex. If you look up tripods etc. it says it lowers your visibility at which animals see you. If you look up hunting structures that are built, it states that animal "senses" of you are reduced. There is also a mission in Hirsch that makes you use a built stand. After completing the mission, the Hirsch lady says a few lines about hunting structures and specifically mentions their reducing of scent.

Reason it's important to me is that I agree with you guys 100% that 75% of the time, hunting structures seem places sort of odd. So *IF* they actually reduce my scent (the main thing that gives your presence away for most animals), that would be my only reason for maybe unlocking some :)

Agreed--that would be an advantage they would hold over portable blinds, and in some cases a significant one. It might not be too hard to test--you can definitely observe downwind animals becoming nervous when you're in a tripod and they approach.
