Is the game dead, since Avalanche Studios is closing 2 studios and laying off 50 devs ? Expansive Worlds next ?

Avalanche Studios own Expansive Worlds, creator of the Hunter. Althought the studio is based in sweden, it gives a bad vibe

I so called it. I've been saying for months now that something was very wrong when it takes them a whole YEAR just to put out 1 new map for COTW. They kept saying it was only because they wanted to take extra time with it to make sure it was the best map ever, and blah, blah blah...

I never bought it for one second.

Now we know that there is indeed trouble behind the scenes over there, but that was already painfully obvious to me (even though others said I was wrong) when you take a whole year just to make 1 map. That's ridiculous, no matter how good the map turns out to be. But I'm bummed I was right.

Either way, hopefully we still see a COTW 2 eventually, and that the series still has a bright future. But you can't help but worry a bit for it now.

Probably not since it's their top seller by a significant margin. The layoffs don't really mean much. IF you have 50 people that are not adding any value, then it's perfectly fine to let them go.

As for the 1 reserve per year, well, what did you guys expect? It's a 7 year old game. Adding new things to it is not as easy as it used to be, and this is true for every single game.

North America is embroiled in a bunch of nasty politics that are trying to take over the entertainment industry so losing two studios located in those territories could be a good thing in the long run. Like removing a limb before the infection the spreads. I hope that's how it goes.

at least i see a developer who is sane...rarely these days unfortunately. they all turned confused and forced by idk who...or why...to put woke s*** in games.
