That's one small step for devs, one giant leap for CoTW.
So nice, thank you EW!
Thank you EW and devs
After one has played long enough, you know what structures have active hot-spots (like ladders on the hunting stand, for example) without having the annoying prompts.
Need zone active hot-spots and animal tracks are now much more challenging (worst case if you get stuck you can always 'show all clues' (I have that off by default).
I never did like the spotting of animals mostly obscured by foliage and other obstructions - it would prompt me, even though I could not see anything that even remotely resembled an animal - as though the mechanism said "Aha! I see one pixel in the view that belongs to an animal - tell the player to spot it!). I think it still works that way - if you scan with your optics and randomly press the 'spot animal' control key/button, it will still bring up the animal information UI in your view.
Just need a zero hud option that leaves the sight settings now. And maybe a map that doesn't have your location on so I can actually get lost in the wilderness. Also make the compass hand held, you pull ot out like binos.
Yeah, this is definitely not a feature for beginners, but after you've played the game for a bit you pretty much know where to stand and look in order to examine a track or enter a hunting stand or claim an outpost and so on. Playing without the prompts last night, I was actually pleasantly surprised that I had zero problems interacting with familiar objects.
That's pretty much the way it works. It really ruins the fun, IMO.
Yes, even with the prompts off you can still scan around and spam the 'spot' button. But, playing the new build last night, I never found myself doing so - I only pressed 'spot' when i was pretty certain I was looking at an animal. Even if you were to adopt a technique of quickly scanning around and checking all suspicious objects by pressing 'spot' over them, that's still a massive step up from how easy it was with the prompt on. To even identify objects as potential animals takes exponentially more effort than simply relying on the prompt - you still have to take the time to actually look at things one by one and use some actual brain power to assess whether they could be an animal or not. Playing last night, I was at times still catching myself using the binos and realising that I was not actually looking through them but rahter using them as some sort of radar-like sweep, if that makes sense. I would have to remind myself, "No, no, you have to actually LOOK!" As soon as you're forced to do that, it becomes a whole different, and much, much funner, ballgame.
Maybe in the future we can get to actually navigate and become familiar with our surroundings too. You know all the skills used in hunting. Madness.
It is very satisfactory to examine the environment for animals instead of for icons, indeed 😁.
I might turn off some of the perks as well. It's so much fun with more realism. When I spot an animal I don't want to know what it's trophy rating, weight, spook level and mothers maiden name is. I'll select a target based on what I can see.
More realism options please devs!
Resetting my skills as we speak.
The prompt I assume is gone from the scope when using this perk now?
Yes, good riddance.
