Any other games with good Ambient Surround Sound Design?
This is a question for those, who have a surround sound setup (5.1, 7.1 ...)

... granted, nobody pays any attention to great ambient sound design.

If it's good, you are immersed in a way that you forget about it. When it is not there, you do not hear it anyway, so you are not reminded of its absence?

But, if you do, is there any other game of the calm, walking around type, that comes to your mind, that has 'a lot going on' in terms of small, ambient sound effects?

Bees humming, Leaves in the wind, rare animal cries, sudden wind gusts, thunder in the distance, rain, a multitude of your characters boots making different sounds, depending on the surface?

I guess, I am asking for something amazing and elaborate, the way Red Dead Redemption 2 is ... only 'another game'.

Feel free to share any, that come to your mind?

Thx :TerribleFace:

World of warships has surround sound not many games do. It would be nice If COTW would have it maybe some day. Me I would rather have a new game new with improved graphics new behaviors that don't look so not so good but not going to happen too much at stake for Expansive worlds to improve both games. I would love to see deer and a few other animals get a face lift more realistic I would be happy for that alone..........

I hear you, about the 'new game' and 'improved graphics' (and animations).

==========

The sound though ...

... actually, most if not all 3D games on PC have audio engines that support 'spacial audio' aka 'surround sound' since the 1990s. Think of WWise, FMOD & Co. These days, Unity and Unreal have build-in 3D sound, even though big studio sound engineers use rather 3rd party middleware.

Not to mention on consoles: SNES, Saturn, PS1 etc. PC, since the first CD-games.

Though, many 2D-ish games do not use anything but 'stereo' output. Makes sense for those. Especially, if you are a small indie dev.

Many low-budget/Indie games do not 'design' explicitly for 3D. They just use it. Only a few of the AAA games care to get 'certified' by 'Dolby' or 'THX' (most console titles do, though, since the very early console days. It used to be a selling point and is/was mandatory for Sony/XBOX retail titles).

The long dark.. no other game comes close to the feeling of ambiance in regards to it's impeccable sound design and atmosphere in my opinion.
