He does not switch over to pursuit mode, cause hes stuck on tracking blood
You can literally see animals despawn beyond 400-450 meters though... On long stretches of open land, they just go "poof", vanished :) So I assume this sometimes happens with your targets.
The "despawn" that you see at 450 m is just a visual limitation, the animal is still roaming, but beyond the game's rendering capability. So it goes into a "calculation-only" mode.
Not sure, perhaps it does relate to the dog's tracking algorithm as well. I'm just saying, I have never experienced what you describe, and I have tracked many animals across long distances of the maps. I'm sure (I hope) someone else can add better info regarding your question.
Im 40y old and I have played a ton of games since I had control over my fingers :) Therefor in most cases I guess right when it comes to game code.
However It is defo possible that the animal goes into calculation only mode. That said my experience might be unlucky or contradictionairy. I dont think I have ever found a corpse beyond 450 meters of it being shot. Coincidence is certainly possible here.
I have also encountered a multitude of bugs in the last 48hours... So its easy for me to assume, that It is another bug. I think this is one of the laziest developed games I have seen in the last decade. No hate, its still a great game... Just saying they like to pump out DLC without fixing anything. Money > customer contentment is their moto. Obviously.
Sometimes I wish I didnt have all that game experience, That I could just enjoy the game lilke a casual does (no insult). Because then I wouldn't see all the flaws as easily as I do now :)
About finding animals past 450 m from impact: I have tracked animals for several km and harvested the same. So, way beyond 450 m from initial shot. That said, I might have had the animal within a 450 m radius of my character position all the time while tracking it.
If you think it is a bug, then it probably is a bug. You can report it to EW if you think it is serious enough. I had my dog confused today at one of the blood tracks. He stopped and did not know what to do. I called him from a distance away from the blood and had him pick up tracking again. Now, he went into pursue-mode. This was an instance with 3 wounded animals and blood tracks nearby, one that I harvested before the dog actually marked him. So I "understand" why he got a bit confused, lol. When situations gets too complex, there simply is no code to deal with it in a logical way (from a human perspective). One has to solve it mathematically
Anyways, happy hunting and let's hope for more trophies and less bugs!
Also As i've said, I play a TON of games. So I know this business model is pretty much meta. Money over quality. Its just sad, while they could be legendary, they choose to be just 'good'. Which is why I never would have bought this over 75% sale. I got it at 82%, so I'm pleased :)
