Advice if not hunting?
Hello,
So, I have started playing and I really love the graphics of the game and the landscapes, and tracking the animals but... I don't want to hunt them (not that I think there is anything wrong with it, I am just not comfortable seeing it, I do wildlife care irl and seeing animals dying just does not bring me any satisfaction, just discomfort because it looks so realistic), but I am very happy to walk around and watch and I'm wondering...

do you have any advice to watch/see more animals?

I got the tripods to have a better view and be able to look around without making noise and I tend to install them near need zones and wait.

Any other ideas? I probably won't get many experience points due to not accomplishing most missions, are there basic skills you'd prioritize? Can you think of problems I'll run into (are there animals I won't ever see?) Thank you!

Well, use the camera function ('P') if you want. Otherwise, tracking, lure and scent skills will help, as will the sound and visibility perks. Same as hunting, just taking pics instead.

shouldnt have buy the game...

hiking simulator or any otehrs simulator with nature thing will do it.

this game is obviously for hunting.

what are you going to do if you get attacked by a pack of wolf ? a buffalo ? a puma ? a bear ? just because you observe them and they spot you at close distance ....

you died.

Well, without shooting animals OP won't really be able to get money or XP to get any of those things you mentioned. There are some photo missions, but they aren't that many and are often locked behind other quests which require hunting.

As for finding more animals, you really can just walk around and find zones they are concentrated in. Especially around sources of fresh water is usually a good bet, since many different animals come there to drink and feed.

Great news, it's a game so actually i have not died, I don't know if you are aware? Sorry to burst your bubble.

If i wanted to know if I should have bought the game I'd have asked that.
I would have loved to find a game without hunting involved and just realistic wildlife watching. I did not find any. Is my enjoying the game this way depriving you of anything? No. So be helpful or move along, seriously.

Thank you for the pointers! I will manage without much XP hopefully. I am thinking about looking for all the artifacts and things like to see if I can make any progress from that.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I don't remember if you get cash for finding sheds and artifacts or just xp. if i recall it's like 100 xp for each one. so you might get a level out of it for experience.

Like the other's have said this game is designed for hunting, so you won't get much out of the photography aspect, but the scenery is amazing. you should find many hours of enjoyment just wandering and taking in the nature in the game. Make sure you unlock the outposts as you come by them. If you die in the game, you're teleported back to the closest unlocked outpost.

okay, let me rewrite it more specifically.

they are others games that allow to just walk around without violence. (as like mentionned "hiking simulator")

then, i was helpful to suggest not buying the game. not that its important as you already buyed it, but then, dont came with the desire to obtain an perfect answer about not hunting in an hunting game. its like asking to play a race car without driving a car.
soo instead of just considering me unhelpful, check yourself first. its not like they are any magical situation that will help you to achieve your desire. you are the one doing the eror at first, of buying an hunting game while knowing you dont like hunting animals.

as for moving along.. should i ? because as for now, you are the one who have no place here ... i mean... its a hunting game, hunting community.
not that everybody here love to kill animals, many like to just walk around looking graphism and places.

but like many say, they are no specific way to enjoy looking animals without hunting them. its kind of mandatory to get all the skills and stuff that would allow you to actually lurk around without hunting.

i was helpful to mention you that you can die easily if you find a pack of wolf or else... but yeah.. go along... ignore me, and enjoy the frustation to greet a pack of 9 wolf without shooting them.

its not like you can run away from them... as you cant run at all.

enjoy the rodeo of buffalo or the insta kill of lions.

i warned you... so dont come back to me with the overused and missplaced "be helpful or move along".

Thanks! The scenery is really amazing, I definitely enjoy it and am looking forward to exploring some more. I'll be sure to unlock the outposts, I've been trying to do so but not systematically. I was almost killed a few times already and was not sure what the exact mechanics would be when I will inevitably die ^^'

I do think your initial post was not exactly written in a friendly or helpful tone and was making assumptions about what I was looking for or expecting, not based on what I wrote, which explains my less than friendly reaction. I am aware I can die in the game (almost happened several times), and well.... I have accepted it, because it's just a game and there is (for me) no negative consequences to it, so, while unpleasant, it does not feel like an big issue.

I have researched other games ("hiking simulators" were my initial target) and did not find any satisfying equivalent (just found "Morel Hunt" which I will be trying), so it is the closest I could find to the thrill of irl wildlife watching.

As far as moving along: there are many topics about hunting, so I was hoping that there was room for a different topic. Nothing was forcing you to reply, or even read my topic, I am not posting on other topics saying "don't hunt", i am not asking the game to stop hunting, just trying to make it work for me while being aware that there will be limitations since I am not using the game as intended. Maybe I made a mistake by buying it, who knows, but if it is the case, I just gave more money to the developers, so no harm done. I had underestimated how affected I would be by the realism of the animals dying, but well... now I have the game, so let's try to make the most of it? I was hoping some people more familiar with the game may be able to see ways to adapt it to my needs better than me, without taking anything away from their gaming experience. Does it make sense?

So what I mean is: sorry I snapped at you, your post was not super helpful either tbh, but I may have misinterpreted your tone because I anticipated rejection and I could have been more diplomatic about it, so how about we both go our own ways?

Here's something that might interest you. I've been playing this game since it first went on sale. When the game was new there was kind of an unofficial contest to see who could be the first to get a picture from the top of every mountain in Layton Lakes. Not an easy task but well worth it. Spectacular views. It really helps to have the tent dlc so you can set up a base camp.

i like your response :) sadly even this forum has a few trolls, but you'll find they're not as numerous as other game forums.

if anything going around and killing random animals for profit and fun made me actually despise people who do it irl and i found even more respect towards natural world after observing the wildlife and chasing a moose that was shot 4 times in the lungs with 357 magnum and still ran for 450 meters

animals are resilient and cherish life, unlike most humans

You'd find amongst most if not all serious hunters that using an inappropriate firearm on an animal would earn you a serious telling off, and maybe a report to the authorities for cancellation of your permit, licence, etc. You'll see on the forums here that 'headshots' are pretty much discouraged.

'Butchers' are largely pariahs in hunting circles, if not for reason of decency and humane practice, then for the reason that it is hugely bad PR for the sport/trade. I'm primarily a dog hunter, and folk get twitchy around us because of the 'humane kill' aspect, although it's fast and no animal escapes or gets lost to suffer.

Morels: The Hunt...wander around and the animals only attack if you annoy them...and poison ivy.
JACKSin Dec 17, 2019 @ 5:10pm
I feel like if I put a bad shot on an animal in this game I have to track it down to apologize. You can see a lot of animals riding the atv and they come to water so you can stake that out. Same with needs. They also have missions that require you to take close up pictures so do those then do the same thing on your own. More experienced players can give you better answers but you don't need to announce yourself. Just ask for advice on how to hunt certain animals and whatever advice you get will be helpful to other players too. It's basically the same whether you're using a camera or a gun. Have fun. I think this is probably a great hiking simulator.
