Rifle for bigger game?
Howdy

I bought the game on sale, and i have some leftover money to spend on a rifle. I'm just looking for an all-round Deer package i guess.

I currently own the.270 Stradivarius and the .243 Ranger that came with the game.

Any advice on a rifle i could carry with my .270, maybe something larger? I'm pretty far from having unlocked the 7mm in gamem but working on it.

get the Mosin Nagant MN1890. You can kill everything with it that the .243 and .270 do. or the 30-06 for the class 3 animals, elk, caribou, reindeer, etc.

30.06 in weapon pack 3 is pretty good next step with integrity on multiple 2B and 3 tier species.
After that the .300 that you get with Yukon DLC is another great rifle but you wont get this one free and without requirements like 30.06, need 75K to buy and decent rifle score as well, worth it though.

Crossbow! You can have level 0, 2 and 3 arrows. I progressed super fast with it, after I started all over.

Not an easy weapon to use for a beginner though, you need to be close, understand how the sight works and it depends heavily on accurately determining the range to the target with at least 10m accuracy.

I did have some advantage since I wasn't completely new to the game, and I also had some experience with the compound bow - now that is a difficult weapon to master :O - which I never did.

But still, I think 270 + crossbow is worth a shot (no pun intended). Once the rangefinder is unlocked, it will be much easier to use too.

Weapon pack 2 is a really good choice for beginner to start out with, MN 1890 is one of the best rifles with good damage, cheap ammo and wide range of integrity on species and drilling rifle has equivalent to damage of 7mm rifle on top of double barreled shotgun and comes with good optical sight.
Holding R key will switch between rifle and shotgun parts. This works out good in Layton so you can start hunting black bear and moose there right away and have added security of double barrels loaded with slugs if bears charge or can just use them with birdshot for rabbits and ducks.
Later in game you would want to replace it with clip loaders like 30.06 and .300 though but clip loading MN 1890 will remain as one of the best rifles in game and integral part of many loadouts on different maps.

The new sight makes compound bow hunting much easier. Ive always preferred using a bow in this game over the guns. Too easy to walk up to 100m of something without spooking it in this game.

Crossbow is fun.

Thank you all for your thoughts. I think i will pick the "MN1890". Although the crossbow/bow is tempting - I remember playing briefly with that in the old TheHunter (the one where you had to start the game via a browser).

Are there any scenarios where the 270 is better than the MN1890, or should i just leave it at home? :)

bow/crossbow are good. only thing is you cant hunt at distance and must be pretty close (soo its a bit tricky if you dont have the good skills)

imho, once you get your best weapons (the ones you are good with), all the others can stay home.

maybe its just me, but i use only 2 weapons max. all the rest stay home.

i use 300 magnum (or 7mm or mosin nagan) and the mixed shotgun/rifle (wich help hunting all kind of animal from rabbits/ducks to buffalo)

the mixed shotgun/rifle is a must have imho. it allow you to wear a powerful rifle with bullets + a shotgun that can shoot all kind of ammo (from birdshot to slug)

wtf are you talking about? you can easily kill at 100m with a crossbow/bow once you get the sighting down.

@PriesT there's a shooting range in the Hirschfelden map you can use to get used to the scopes and crossbow and bow sites. there's an archery range in Parque Fernando also if you have that map. doesn't take long to figure out the sights.

And the zeroing skill/perk later in the game. not much use for rifles, but it helps for the long crossbow or bow shot.
