Thanks for the reply mate. Did you buy WOTH?
Also ...
No functional multiplayer after six months.
Animals with xray vision can see you through inclines, hills, etc.
When I played, there was no economy. It was so bad I wanted to have to buy bullets.
Limited selection of weapons in terms of variety. Only bolt action rifles and recently, crossbows. I have no plans to try crossbows.
Horrendous, game breaking bugs. Example: the infamous 'fast travel' bug. If you fast traveled and animals were in a certain radius of your character, they would permanently fast travel to the area you went to.
I believe they recently patched this, but I hated the "bobbing" that happened during the almost mandatory crouch walking.
Strange visual theme. I don't know how to put it. Blurry? Washed out? Both?
And much more!
TY Poltergeist for the reply. I know I've seen you in the WOTH forums. At the end of the day and everyday in WOTH the game is boring at best to begin with. IE.. no/very little RNG, Animals sleeping drinking and eating at the same time periods. They need to open up the game. NOW!!!!!!!!!!
Save your money. The game is broken, boring and at best BAD. Thanks for the reply. Happy hunting.
At least not in its current state.
Player movement is all but smooth, walking and crouching pace seem to be way off and also twitchy and wonky, it just doesn't feel right wich makes it just unenjoyable, for me at least.
Animals are just moving on rails, from one need zone to the next, wich makes it very predictable and takes away any immersion.
Then there's the absolute unrealistic spook mechanic and the non-existing terrain masking.
These are base game mechanics wich can't be changed or improved easily, so the Devs already stated that this is very unlikely to be changed in the future.
Once one figured out how the game works, there's really not much left to enjoy the game immersively.
Forcing players to do a stupid story line to get hands on the new, better crossbow also is a really dumb way to do things imho.
I'm not even complaining about the lack of content, I think that'd be too early. The game's still pretty young and maybe there's more to come in the future.
Anyway, I'm done for for now and back to CotW.
Maybe I take another look at it in a year or so.
Game play is the biggest: CHARACTER CHOICE, Tents, Tripods, ground blinds, decoys, many rifles, shot guns, hand guns, bows, many maps and much more.
The last straw was when they introduced the Alaskan territory and no choice to play as a man. I mean really in this advanced time period in technology they actively chose not to implement character choice?…ruined the GAME PLAY FOR ME!
OK, if that wasn’t bad enough...when the men started to voice their opinion on this...they were silenced censored, thread locked and or removed. SO for me, they know what they can do with it. (for now)
TheHunter COTW for me :)
I managed to immerse myself into about 400 hours and found it challenging and enjoyed the exploration. And I would probably have continued playing it intermittently as a break from the mainstay CoTW, which IMO is just a much better hunting experience overall. But I acknowledge that to be a very individual matter.
Now, regarding the lacking of WOTH that I suggest led to it's failure to reach it's true potential, I would point out the most prominent issues.
First, to produce a hunting game where the hunter has no chance to spot a trophy, and then be able to track it down, or to be able to follow sign to the animal which left it behind, was obviously their biggest mistake. I have posted on that many times hoping it might change, but when a Dev posted that it was not something they could achieve now, my efforts ended there.
Secondly, regarding the simulation of hunting pressure, a Dev reported that when enough pressure occurs an entire herd is actually temporarily removed from the map to suggest animals being pressured from one location.
Why, just WHY???????
I think the Developers were so intent on avoiding any comparisons to CoTW that they unintentionally designed their product into one made up of compromises that should not have been made if they wanted to reach out to a specific genre.
The research that was done, IMHO, was not adequate, thorough, or rational, and that shows through glaringly once people get involved in the intricacies of actual hunting. I think that the initial grandeur one experiences with the introduction to the amazing landscape is eventually lost in the issues that begin developing as one plays deeper.
So no dynamic tracking, poor hunting pressure simulation, lured animals becoming carelessly entranced, too much focus on managing herds, and being invisible to animals on one hand while victim to their supersenses on the other, just simply created too many unrealistic issues for me.
I can still enjoy it now and than as long as I don't expect more than it has to offer.
However, in my personal case, I was finding that trying to remember the extreme differences in gameplay, which were basically an antithesis of each other, was too confusing. That keeps me away more than anything else. So in the end, their attempt to be different causing too many surreal issues is the very reason I am not playing it as much as I would have.
Just curious.
Apart from the licensed weapons and gear, there's nothing realistic to be found IMHO.
Not even animal animations are realistic, let alone anything of the game mechanics.
Sure CotW also is way off realism in many ways and I've got no intensions to de-rail this thread, like I said, I'm just curious what exactly people find more realistic in WotH.
100% agree with this. Tedious and realistic are different concepts.
For example, with the release of the Revontuli reserve a year ago the positional audio was broken, making hunting birds on the wing next to impossible. Then, with the release of the New England reserve it broke further. Now I can see a moose bellowing in front of me but the sound will come from the left. Pretty major bug for a hunting game. What have the devs done about it? Nada. Zilch. Not even a mention of it. Instead we get cosmetics and yet more weapons no one hunts with.
So, that's my take. Been playing this game since November of 2017 and probably have more hours in this game than all my other games combined but I think I'm done. WOTH is not as polished as this and the unity engine sucks but at least the devs listen and respond to the players.
At least it's not COD with deer.
- lacking options for settings normally found in a PC game
- the UE4 engine do a poor job for open world games, WOTH is not an exception (smoothness)
- area/map visuals are very disneyland-like and I could not unsee all the assets being repeated. Weather/atmosphere (clouds etc.) is below par.
- animal movement not dynamic enough allowing for long tracking sessions (agree with HooCairs here)
- dislike tracking system (I do not want artificial colors telling me what to do)
- audio is horrible at many locations
- hunter is too short and moves far too fast (walking)
In general, WOTH did not click with me at all. I wish it had, so I could enjoy 2 hunting games. I'm happy for those that enjoys it though.
