Not worth the wait IMO. I waited an hour of game time before moving on.

yeah i decided to try crouching in a bush and going afk doing other things with game running in the background. might have been an hour later when i came back to the game and ran around the burrows area. didnt get a single thump nor see any rabbits around. also checked the burrows after and they hadnt updated to very recently used again

Not sure how things are currently, but in the past, you had to move away from the burrow a certain distance and then approach it again for the rabbits to pop up again. Usually you'd hear them moving again and would know you could make them reappear now.
And they generally did appear only if you were about 80m or closer to the burrow (which was a bit of a pain).
There's a video of a guy with a Spanish sounding accent on YouTube describing the process.
But all of that might have changed and the distances increased.

I've double checked multiple burrow sites at different times of day and never see any rabbits

Additionally to moving away from the burrows the rabbits are only active in the hours from 05:00 - 09:00, 12:00 - 16:00 and 18:00 - 22:00. Happy hunting.

Adding to what others said about having to move away from the burrows - even if you're already far enough, the rabbits won't come out if there are any of their dead berethren still around. So you have to harvest all the dead ones, and then move away. In my experience, 30 meters is far enough to get them out.

thanks for all the details. i didnt measure the range from nearest burrow with rangefinder but might have not been far enough out or outside the scheduled times windows then. i might have been maybe 20-30yds from the nearest burrow. and i did claim/harvest the rabbit i had killed before they burrowed previously

30+ meters away, rabbits can be dead closeby though, about 20 minutes of gametime.

i once sat in a blind watching a burrow for 3 and a half hours real time until the diamond i saw run into it finally came back out
