COTW is full of Disneyland/COD-features as default. The good thing is you can turn it off. Every now and then, EW decides to turn this crap on despite of your settings (by misstake or as an "new feature", lol). For most of the time and "new features" you can clean it up and get rid of it.
With all that is going on its really hard not to rant out 10 pages. Game is getting better and worse at the same time. Whoever is doing the animals they need to get them away from the game... This isn't your forte.
Hell, you just bump everything as they see you at damn near the call ranges. Moose are more alert than whitetails, and we can tell cuz sometimes they are in the same spawn.
This game use to be teaming with life. I am guessing next they will have the animals shooting back at us. Why not, they are already acting like NPC's now.
Imagine if they spent all that time working on making the animals act more like animals instead.. Like rutting... going from zone to zone to zone. Instead of standing for hours at a waterhole so some WHOTUBER can make a vid of him setting in a chair sniping at animals camping spawns from 300 meters away.
Let's start with basic Ascent 1-4x scope - the magnification range is somewhat dated (1-6x scopes are pretty much standard among LPVOs/driving scopes, and there are even 1-8x or 1-10x models available), but the very fine reticle is just awful when trying to get a bead on a fast moving target. So either some sort of thick German post reticle would be better (like the one on Helios), or just accept it's 21st century and illuminated reticles are a thing.
The 4-8x scopes are really weird when it comes to magnification. I guess it's supposed to be some sort of an all-around scope, but why not make it a 3-9x or even 2-10x? Low magnification of 4x is usually used on "mid" to "long-range" scopes, like 4-12x, or 4-16x. For an all-rounder it offers too low field of view on low magnification. The German post reticle on Helios is meh from "modern" point of view, but fits the intended use with "vintage" lever action. But the mil-dot on Hyperion is too thick to get precise shots on small targets like foxes - so the opposite of the Ascent where the reticle was too fine. Matter of fact - the Ascent duplex/simple cross reticle would fit Hyperion like a glove (illuminated reticle, even simple dot in a black cross, would also be great). Makes me wonder if any of the devs/artists responsible for scopes ever saw a real one, and understood the design features.
The Argus 8-16x suffers from the same "too high low magnification" - with max magnification of 16x I'd expect 4x on the low side, but we're given double of that. Why? I guess because it's literally twice of the numbers on Hyperion. Which is not how real scopes are made - and for a reason. A better "high magnification" scope would be something like 6-18x, or aforementioned 4-12x/4-16x - naturally within the limits of the game, as in real life we would be talking about 5-25x scopes when it comes to "long range". At least on the Argus the mil-dot reticle not only makes sense, but is thin/fine enough to be usable.
It's a shame that theHunter Classic has way more diverse (and more true to life) scope selection, and none of that was thought about when making sequel. For every scope class in CotW (low/mid/high) there's a better fit in the Classic, whether it comes to magnification range or reticle/illumination.
