Animals too cautious in this game?
I feel like animals are far more cautious and suspicious than in real life?

Like even hares you will see slowly fleeing from you across the map with their head weirdly perched behind them, huh? Hares dont behave like that do they? I can find families of wild hares at my local park and they let you get within 10ft before they flee, and not slowly, with their heads to the side, watching you.

They just upped the spook range recently, I've even spooked Animals that were on the other sides of large hills while crawling from downwind with scent eliminator on. It's a bit annoying and unrealistic I get ya.

On the other hand, try to find a real life area with a comparable game density to THCOW. It is a kind of compromise in between playable game and reality. With more realistic gameplay mechanics lots of the players would leave, cause it would be impossible to kill several animals within an hour. Hundreds of lions and wolves within small areas like the hunting reserves are not occuring in real life.

Adding more realism in the game would mean you could find a wolf or bear in european maps maybe every few years with some luck. Same for european bison and lynx which are rarely occuring in most parts of Europe. I´´m from Germany, so I can talk about Hirschfelden which is similar to my environment. You can find some roe deer, foxes and hare on a regular base when you are hiking through forests or fields. Depending on the region you can find rabbits instead of hare as well, or geese around bigger water bodies. But thats it.
Red deer are nearly impossible to find. I think there is only one group of European bison in Germany, some more in the few last "jungle parts" in eastern Europe. Wild boar are shy as hell in areas where they are hunted and you won´t recognize them until you nearly step on them. Happened for me two years ago where two wild boars stood up two or three metres in front of me when I was working in the forest stepping through a wildered path. I wouldn´t have recognized them at all before they stood up and ran away. Most animals here are active at night, maybe in the early morning or late evening. During the day they are all hiding inside dense brushes and resting. So day-hunting should also be no big thing anymore. Night hunting on the other hand is forbidden. So the time you could hunt would decrease immensely.

Or try out approaching a wolf, bear or lynx within a few hundred metres. Probably not possible with a health animal. Or at least you will have a once-in-a-lifetime-adventure when reaching that aim.

You see my point? Adding more realism would make the game easier for hunting very few animals, like your hares. But it would make it difficult up to impossible to hunt most of the species at all.

Yes but the difference is im sighting poor coding not adding realism. Spooking through terrain downwind of the animal whilst using all the skills to make oneself quiter and eliminating smell is fixable as it has broken function of existing game mechanics it's laziness on the devs part.

I spend all day hunting and get within 30 yards of everything , some birds are a little tough , your doing some thing wrong maybe walking upright or even running while hunting who knows maybe wind direction. Maybe hunting In purple areas that you have killed animals In. This game Is easy when you learn how to do It.....

Its true that I am often walking upright, but I make these observations based on that fact, I dont know if animals act this cautiously in real life, unless the conditions are vastly different out in the wilderness, but yeah the wild hares which are the same breed as those in the game happily mind their business within spitting distance, why do they flee when they see a Hunter 100m away as if they know that mf is armed with a .223 aiming at they bunny ass.

Animals irl are at least as cautious as in this game if not even more so. You take great care and pay attention when the price you may pay for not doing so is ending up as dinner.

That isn't always the case, Like the farms I use to hunt on lots of heavy equipment used frequently in the area like tractors ect had become so common place the Whitetail would just ignore it and still come out in the fields (by farms normal crop growth for my area, corn, cabbage, lettuce, carrots, ect..some livestock but not a Deer hunting Farm where they feed and make easy hunts for rich people never been able to afford that kinda hunt wouldn't want to hunt a tamed Deer anyways). Was visiting a place called "Hunting Island" Had a Whitetail approach the porch we were sitting on looking for hand outs apparently, these were wild animals, though the place is called "Hunting Island" there is no hunting allowed there nor is it some petting zoo it's just an untouched area for tourist to visit. It varies on where you are and how much exposure to humans the animals have had what that exposure has been like.

This is also why you see signs that say things like (Don't Feed the Gators) these are wild animals when you feed gators you get them use to humans to the point they loose any natural fear they may have had and start expecting food from humans, which is something you never want to happen because someone or there kid could become a future snack.

I was out two weeks ago (May 29-31, the last 3 days of spring turkey season in Ontario) in a wildlife management area near Goderich, Ontario (eastern shore of Lake Huron). So, on the morning of May 31st, I was out before sunrise, walking out to a potential hunting spot, when I came across a whitetail doe munching on the clover. She was about 30m away and didn't notice me at first, but she lifted her head and looked in my direction (maybe she scented me). So, we stood there for a couple of minutes, just looking at each other - deer do that, because their eyesight is not the greatest, and she was trying to figure out what I was; when I started moving to get my camera out for a picture (I could kick myself for not having my GoPro clipped on and recording!), she stood up, gave me that 'aaaaackkkk! warning call' and bounded off into the woods. I continued on in my original direction, and discovered her again about 200m further in - this time she saw me, gave her warning call, very loud and long and took off immediately back into the woods. That encounter made my trip all the more worthwhile.

Hunted all my life for blacktails and mule deer in Calif hunting In real life Is way harder and demanding by far than this game ,I used to train for three months with a 45 pound packpack so when i pack pack Into the back country I have enough energy to maybe get one kill and get it out. Or eight hours on horse pack just to get where the deer are. Most animals they see or hear you and there gone. Very lucky to kill three deer a season two In Calif and one out of state.

A hunting game makes It very easy to kill animals In game If It was like real hunting this game would not be around odds of killing a deer in calif 1 in 30 hunters get a deer thats how hard It Is but if you go hunting 30 times you might get one you have to put your time In hunting more days In the field better chance of seeing and getting one., for what It Is its a great game during the off season. I'm just sad you never got to do real hunting waking up In the morning opening day hoping to run into a buck and with friends and enjoying hunting stories and camp fires at night....Sound like your a young man wish you the best In game , when you start seeing tracks crouch use your callers don't walk to much. Just slip In and they will come to you. Never move when animals are coming your way and are less that 100 yards away. If your using a rifle you should have np.

You can't use half tame rabbits you observed in a park as a comparison.

Well, some are really dumb. Especially roe deer. Cannot count how many times I just waltzed by right next to them not even intending to shoot at them. They were just in the way and I hoped they won't jump right in my face.

I live at the edges of a big city with a lot of woodland and fields around. It is pretty common that they feed on gardens and cemeteries so they are pretty used to the smell of humans and don't spook that easily or even don't care even if they see you from afar and just continue feeding.

Would not happen in a pretty rural environment like Hirschfelden.

Elaborate this term, how is this accomplished?

Build your character to be quiet when moving and use scent eliminator, dont run and dont wear a pack... when you hear a warning call crouch or lay down and you can get rather close to pretty much anything. I bow hunt 90% of the time and I can crouch and move within 50 yards of pretty much any animal in game

The Hares or any other wildlife you see in a park have become used to humans and won't spook near as easy as animals in the wild.
