Adding more realism in the game would mean you could find a wolf or bear in european maps maybe every few years with some luck. Same for european bison and lynx which are rarely occuring in most parts of Europe. I´´m from Germany, so I can talk about Hirschfelden which is similar to my environment. You can find some roe deer, foxes and hare on a regular base when you are hiking through forests or fields. Depending on the region you can find rabbits instead of hare as well, or geese around bigger water bodies. But thats it.
Red deer are nearly impossible to find. I think there is only one group of European bison in Germany, some more in the few last "jungle parts" in eastern Europe. Wild boar are shy as hell in areas where they are hunted and you won´t recognize them until you nearly step on them. Happened for me two years ago where two wild boars stood up two or three metres in front of me when I was working in the forest stepping through a wildered path. I wouldn´t have recognized them at all before they stood up and ran away. Most animals here are active at night, maybe in the early morning or late evening. During the day they are all hiding inside dense brushes and resting. So day-hunting should also be no big thing anymore. Night hunting on the other hand is forbidden. So the time you could hunt would decrease immensely.
Or try out approaching a wolf, bear or lynx within a few hundred metres. Probably not possible with a health animal. Or at least you will have a once-in-a-lifetime-adventure when reaching that aim.
You see my point? Adding more realism would make the game easier for hunting very few animals, like your hares. But it would make it difficult up to impossible to hunt most of the species at all.
Its true that I am often walking upright, but I make these observations based on that fact, I dont know if animals act this cautiously in real life, unless the conditions are vastly different out in the wilderness, but yeah the wild hares which are the same breed as those in the game happily mind their business within spitting distance, why do they flee when they see a Hunter 100m away as if they know that mf is armed with a .223 aiming at they bunny ass.
This is also why you see signs that say things like (Don't Feed the Gators) these are wild animals when you feed gators you get them use to humans to the point they loose any natural fear they may have had and start expecting food from humans, which is something you never want to happen because someone or there kid could become a future snack.
I was out two weeks ago (May 29-31, the last 3 days of spring turkey season in Ontario) in a wildlife management area near Goderich, Ontario (eastern shore of Lake Huron). So, on the morning of May 31st, I was out before sunrise, walking out to a potential hunting spot, when I came across a whitetail doe munching on the clover. She was about 30m away and didn't notice me at first, but she lifted her head and looked in my direction (maybe she scented me). So, we stood there for a couple of minutes, just looking at each other - deer do that, because their eyesight is not the greatest, and she was trying to figure out what I was; when I started moving to get my camera out for a picture (I could kick myself for not having my GoPro clipped on and recording!), she stood up, gave me that 'aaaaackkkk! warning call' and bounded off into the woods. I continued on in my original direction, and discovered her again about 200m further in - this time she saw me, gave her warning call, very loud and long and took off immediately back into the woods. That encounter made my trip all the more worthwhile.
A hunting game makes It very easy to kill animals In game If It was like real hunting this game would not be around odds of killing a deer in calif 1 in 30 hunters get a deer thats how hard It Is but if you go hunting 30 times you might get one you have to put your time In hunting more days In the field better chance of seeing and getting one., for what It Is its a great game during the off season. I'm just sad you never got to do real hunting waking up In the morning opening day hoping to run into a buck and with friends and enjoying hunting stories and camp fires at night....Sound like your a young man wish you the best In game , when you start seeing tracks crouch use your callers don't walk to much. Just slip In and they will come to you. Never move when animals are coming your way and are less that 100 yards away. If your using a rifle you should have np.
You can't use half tame rabbits you observed in a park as a comparison.
I live at the edges of a big city with a lot of woodland and fields around. It is pretty common that they feed on gardens and cemeteries so they are pretty used to the smell of humans and don't spook that easily or even don't care even if they see you from afar and just continue feeding.
Would not happen in a pretty rural environment like Hirschfelden.
Elaborate this term, how is this accomplished?
The Hares or any other wildlife you see in a park have become used to humans and won't spook near as easy as animals in the wild.
