Yup, as much as it's annoying in game, it is realistic, in spite of what many think.
Geese and ducks that are gathered in flocks are notoriously noisy and alot louder than you might think.
Anyone that's hunted then in areas where they get large flocks will tell you this.
They often cause traffic jam, because they have no respect for vehicles or persons.
I once hit the cars signal as i already moved into contact range but they look at me of my cars front.....absolutely without respect.
And new, even ducks are joining them...crazy!!
Was with disdain. They went "pffff a Merc. Not even a Porsche".
I don´t know, if I understood that statement correctly, but the need zones of an animal exist anyways. It makes no difference, if the player detetcs them or not. Animals don´t establish a need zone, just because they were spotted.
You're right. In areas where there's an NZ you will usually have animals that have one programmed into their daily pathway like waypoints on a flightpath.
However, it seems to me after over 4000-plus hours, that when you connect a species to a specific zone, their routines are changed to now use that zone instead of their original one. And this means that you're going to see more of that species in and around that area now, where before that, you might not have seen/ heard as many.
So by not clicking on geese in an area, you won't invite more squawking than might already be there.
Test it for yourself.
Next time you're in an area where you can see geese off in the distance that aren't really disturbing the area you're in with noise, go ahead and click on a flock flying by, or go to the area you can see them sitting, and actually click on one, or spot one with your scope/binocs, or click on their sign, and you will suddenly realize that from then on there will be a significant increase in their presence and noise.
It's undeniable.
Likewise, when you're on a quiet lake don't click on any ducks sitting out there unless you don't want to start hearing alot more from them.
I'd bet good money that most of the players that are really suffering will have clicked on these birds everywhere they go.
Click-happy is one of the worst habits people develop early in the game.
Just check your own maps for this. Observe the difference between lakes with a few ducks that weren't clicked on and tagged to a zone, and lakes where you do have zones showing ducks/geese connected to them, and you will clearly see the increase.
Another test as well as a resolution, is kill enough of those birds in that area to 'delete' that zone, and after a few in-game days have passed without hunting in that area, return and compare the difference.
And than if you don't care about recreating that problem again, go ahead and click on a bird, if you dare. Lol
Same thinking applies in areas where you don't want an increase of puma chasing your quarry, or rabbits hopping around everywhere, or peccary tormenting you, etc etc , it's really just plain logic.
In the case of predators it's a double edged sword. They will often get animals moving so you can see what's around when you're scouting and setting up specific zones, but once you have your zones setup, you might not want predators chasing away your targets.
Rabbits aren't as prolific as they used to be. When first released and you tagged them in a zone you might have 30 of them running around making it hard to hear other footsteps, and when the rabbits spooked so did the deer you were in the process of luring.
And those damned peccary and buffalo can be a real pain in the arse when you don't want them in an area. So why bother tagging them anyway?
Many people just get into the habit of tagging everything they see, click-happy.
How many of you will walk up to set of what is clearly a puma track, that you can see with your own eyes, and than tag it anyway out of habit?
But yes, what an unbelievable rhuckus. In the movie Sneakers, the blind guy with the million dollar ears mistakes a pond of geese as a loud party at first, IIRC.
I try to go (and log) places where I can't hear them, so that will be my new solitude map, lol. But it has been near to impossible to find quiet areas...
Otherwise I will just waste ammo spraying the sky in anger 😁
Yup, done that a couple of times..!
I used to play exclusively on Hirsch, but they completely ruined it with the constant geese sounds. This has been a long standing problem and many people complained here on Steam. Instead of fixing it, they made it a lot worse.
