Died after animal kill
I got a random wolf pack encounter and there was an albino wolf. Somehow they were more aggressive than normal (actually very often they just bug out and run in circle and don't even notice me).

Anyway sadly I think I killed the albino but then while stuck in a reloading, I got killed by the other wolves. Of course I don't see anything where it was (assuming I went back to the right spot).

The carcass disappeared because I died, right?

Yeah but you wounded him, you didn't kill him...

I shot a moose once, knew it was a kill from the hunting pressure on the map, and then got trampled by another moose and died. I respawned in the tent and went hunting again assuming that the dead animal would have disappeared but found it right near where I shot it, so I would say that they don't necessarily just disappear.
If you quit the game and then come back into it then the dead animal will have disappeared.

For the future, no the carcass does not disappear because of a death and respawn.

Hi.
The carcass does not disappear when you die and respawn. If you really killed it, go back to the spot and claim the carcass.

Well now it's the next morning (in real life) after I slept the night means I quit the game yesterday evening...I guess no point in even going back to check :'(((

Oh BTW I realized only now by googling that also the "eggwhite" wolf exists....at this point I am not even sure anymore which one was that I met...if eggshell or albino ahah.

Anyway it was mostly to get that achievement, I hope it will spawn soon again

Hi.
Yes, after exiting the game, the carcass shouldn't be there anymore (although my friends and I have had strange encounters where we actually found carcasses from previous sessions, very very weird).
As for the eggwhite wolf, yes, I killed two of those before I eventually bagged the albino. All you can do is keep looking for the albino. It may take a lot of time; and then again it may not.
Good hunting.

I already died a few times while shooting bisons. You can just go back and collect your trophies after you died. There is no penalty for dying in this game.

Once upon a time the bodies of unharvested animals would vanish if, at any point, the distance between the carcass and the hunter exceeded rendering distance (approx 430 meters) or if we left the game for any reason. This was particularly irritating when the fleeing animal ran beyond rendering distance before dying of it's wounds. The devs fixed it so wounded animals would no longer run out of rendering distance and that fix has proven to be effective for me thus far. The carcasses of unharvested animals may still vanish if I leave the game by choice or crash (they vanish 100% of the time for me) but given a choice between no fix and a partial fix, I'll take the partial.

It's possible that what happened to you (score: Animals 1 Hunter 0) is a previously undiscovered sidebar to the "leaving the game" or "exceeding rendering distance" problem.
The wise Hunter would simply load up the save they made at the end of their last playing session and do a rinse and repeat of the current days playing session (this time avoiding becoming "knocked out"). I'm drawing the bullseye after the bullet has hit the paper here, but the truth is that without that save your wolf is gone and there's no getting it back.

It is entirely possible you'll run across another albino wolf some day. As for me, I'm going to make very sure from this point on that I clear the field before making my way towards a downed animal carcass. Just in case.

Were you able to recover the albino????

As stated, corpses don't disappear/despawn when player dies. This only happens upon ending a session and restarting.

Just had a corpse vanish. I killed a diamond Whitetail and a nice looking Lvl 2. Forgot to save it for taxidermy work so hit the trophy lodge button and used the last harvest not saved button. Then went back to the kill site and the Lvl 2 carcass was gone. Apparently, going to a trophy lodge is like ending a session. Not the first time this has happened, just the most recent.

Next time go to an outpost or tent and use the storage to bring up the trophy manager, rather than the lodge. That won't end your session and you can still do the last unsaved harvest.

It's not a bug, it's just how the game works.
