tripod does not count as hunting stand?
Why is that? A portable ground blind works for missions but a tripod not?

There is a mission in Lake District to kill a Roosevelt Elk from a hunting stand.

All Hunting stand positions are garbage. You will need to get mighty lucky to get a bull pass by.

There is one perfect one with a eating zone twice a day. 100m away. Problem. There is never ever a bull in this group only female. I checked for days now.

I just got the tripod pack, becuase i know it works with blinds. But no. Just hunted down a Bull after wounding him. It didnt count. After all what i understand from mission structure of the game it should.

It feels like a deliberate slap in the face that there are no males in this group. And you cant even use other means to do the mission.

As much as i love this game. Some missions are not challenging, they are designed by mor*ns or vile creatures that wanna pi** in your face.

I got super lucky with the mission to kill two deer at the rock formation. I saw a few pass by at around 9:30. Came back next day and killed two in one attempt. But there is no need zone in that maission area, afaik. I found non. So you can attempt this mission over and over with no luck i guess.

Hunt a moose at night from a ground blind? I found 1 need zone 4-8. So you got one hour for a lucky kill and you need a portable blinde too.

rant over.

Just for the record. Tree stand does not work either. Why this hunting structure does not follow the same rule as the ground blind is anyones guess.

The ground blinds didn't work for missions either at the start. That was only fixed after some complaints.
EW likes to repeat their mistakes, it seems. One reason for this could be that they have a fairly high fluctuation in their staff (I'm guessing).

Its really annoying for this mission tbh. There is no reason why it should not work.

I had some tracks passing by a hunting stand but old once and i actually waited there a while next day. No males came.

Some say "use the caller" it attrackts the females but not the males.

It really seems more of an oversight. Some mission areas seem to have no need zones even close and you really need to get lucky even with callers.

Or there should be something like certain times for animals traversing. 2 hours maybe if there is no real need zone near by.

I only have sh*t missions left in Lake Distric and will most likely just drop the game for a while. I wanna try emerald coast after a break at some point.

But finishing Lake or Hirsch seems to be really tedious in the end.

Its a shame because other missions are really fun challanges.

I mean i get it when i have a need zone really far away. Take a good shot or hunt the animals down. Thats fine. But rely on luck in an already slow paced game? Thats just too much at some point.

I remember that one, also took me a while. There is one stand beside the path leading up from Calburn. It has no need zones but Elk would walk up from the lake each night.
Of course they might have changed the need zones and it doesn't work any more.

You mentioned you saw old tracks - they can only be 6 hours old at the most, then they vanish. So maybe place a tent there and set the time accordingly.

If you play this game primarily for the missions, then yes I can see why you would want to put it down for a while. Here is a suggestion -- just put the missions down?

Yes i saw old track. Even waited a while next day but only females showed up.

Maybe i give this another go while doing something else om pc and keep the game running.

It would be fun to at least finish lake.

I know where they are. They are not too far away from the stands. I killed two with tripod and tree stand and thats should count and it would be fair enough.

The mission were the only reason i kept playing lately. I killed a lot of animals. That alone is not tempting me anymore.

And i dont feel like tackling a new huge map rn. Maybe some day in the future.

I could not convince myself what else to play. So i tried another session.

Stayed a few ingame hours at different stands while browsing. Nothing. Occasionally mating calls stirred me. But it was only females and other deer.

I used callers, scent ... nothing.

On my way to the last stand i spooked a group of males. They still were 300-400m away. Reaching the stand there was one visible. I had like 3 sec. to get him.

I hit him in the pelvis and i got him. Just pure luck. Just like with my mission on the rook formation.

I still gonn adrop it for a while. And start with a fresh map in a few weeks or months.

I haven't even done the 2 Coyotes at night in Cheela mission. Night hunting is just too much work and hard on the eyes and coyotes are skittish at the best of times.
I just hunt areas and enjoy a relaxing game.

Most coyotes at night missions are pretty easy tbh. They drink on lakes from 0-4. Its easy to get pretty close. Unless its at Balmont lake where there is so much grass.

Bags, a good way to acclimatize yourself to night hunting is on the Medved Taiga map.

With everything being so white the night is not as dark.

If you can become accustomed to it night hunting certain species can bring dramatic results you won't experience any other time, not to mention that some animals are not able to see you as easily.

If you read the codex you will see that the best times for hunting many animals is the twilights of morning and evening.

I do agree that some maps can be extremely dark, and don't know if settings can resolve that. In some cases it can be a matter of cloud cover, fog, etc which changes.

But some maps are much better than others for night hunting without argument.

Thanks guys. I may give it a go..... haven't even tried yet. After dabbling around in Silver Ridge Peaks and the Yukon I've found myself enjoying Leyton a lot more recently.

I did a lot of night hunting in the beginning because it was too expensive to rest XD
Now i have 250.000 or so an dont know what to buy.
