theHunter: Call of the DLC
The previous theHunter game was free to play, so I can understand the micro-transactions and all. However, this game costs $20 and rn $5 on sale. Yet, there are 32 paid DLCs with only 10 of them being either additional maps or cosmetics. The other 22 DLCs are essentials that affect gameplay.

Well i played almost 50 hours in one of the two maps that are included. Got that for 5€ but even 20 is okay for that. I only got the dog that really affected my gameplay making find dead animals a bit faster. An i mean just a bit.

I just found out what the tent does and got that as well to use it in the game.

The tent and the dog pack should be in the base game, along with the quad i agree. Having weapon packs and new maps is alright imo.

You can still have alot of fun with the base game and when you feel like you need some more stuff you can get it. I have mixed feeling with this. If you put everything in the game and make it too expensive, people might not wanna give it a shot at all.

I think this is a niche game. Making it too expensive might turn of a lot of players.

I'm not saying make it expensive, and I don't mind DLC, but not things that would drastically change gameplay. Like, sometimes it feels like the devs are deliberately making certain tasks too difficult so that we buy certain DLCs like the hound or ATV. That's all I'm saying, they can as much DLC as they want, but keep essentials as free updates. Gun packs are not cosmetics, but I don't mind paying for them cuz there's already guns in the game and gun packs will only add more of the same thing with slight changes.

I think they have the right monetization model. The studios need revenue in order to continue putting out new content. As players, we want new content and continuous development.

The base game gets one a lot of weapons and 2 maps. More than fair for the price asked.

The only other way we could get continuous development and new content would be a pure subscription model. I personally would not like a subscription model.

Studios love the subscription model. Some studios have the gall to change from a "purchase the game and play without additional costs", and turn into a subscription model: actually yanking items people had earned in-game and locking behind a paywall. Yes, Rockstar, I am talking to you!

I get the point. But i still think the base game for 20 is okay. Its enough to see if you like the main gameplay. If you do, you can buy more stuff.

I havent got one weapon pack. I farmed everything with missions and kills. I got the Night pack but i basically dont use it.

Go Away! Lol

The game has been out for some years already, the DLC have been coming out bit by bit, it's normal to feel overwhelmed by it. I think the price is fair and honestly, except the guns, you can play any of the reserves in multiplayer without having to own them at all, even the ATV's and the dogs are also free to use if the host owns them

This game probably has the best value DLC ive ever seen.

I'm a relatively new player who never played the original game and currently have around 160 hours play time so far starting around 8 weeks ago.
I got the game on special for around $7 (NZd which is around $5 USd) which is a bargain.

I played for a few days without any DLC and then got the Quad bike for just over $2 to help me open outposts a bit quicker. I also got the tents DLC just recently, plus the Yukon map, the Silver Ridge Peaks map and the modern weapons pack all on special. All up I've spent a little over $20 all up which currently equates to less than 15c per hour played and I've barely touched Hirschfelden or the Yukon and have a LOT of Silver Ridge Peaks to explore, so there are hundreds of more hours of play to come with no spending needed.

It would be very easy to enjoy this game without spending anything on DLC.
The way I play now I do not need the Quad bike at all. I set out on a hunt with a good idea of where the next Outpost is and use that as my destination or head out from an opened Outpost with a flexible plan in mind. The tents occasionally are very handy if I get sidetracked too much and run out of time to get to my destination so I'll drop a tent and continue on from there my next session. While the Zarza 10 .308 and the Canning .300 Magnum are great to have and make bringing down game a bit easier they are in no way necessary.

For my current style of playing, the tents would have been good in the base game, but not necessary.

When you look at the price of new maps, particularly when on special, they are very good value. You are effectively getting a new game for a few dollars.

Compare it to another game I play, Assassin's Creed, where the longest I have spent on any of them is 117 hours on Black Flag. They cost a LOT more than a map DLC and once finished I have no desire to replay them.

You said it all. On COTW you are never "finished". Every hunting day is different.

Bruh, with that rate you'd take almost 500 to 600 hours to finish AC Origins.

Back in 2021 you could get the game + every DLC for $15 via humble bundle during a sale. Might be worth monitoring that website just in case they do something like that again.

The wife and I play together with me controlling and her making suggestions, pointing out things I didn't see or just yelling "kill them, kill them"..... and she likes to finish any game by collecting everything if possible so the last 30-40 hours were not necessary to finish the game.

One lf the Best value DLC on the market rn. You buy 1 DLC map you more species, kilometers to explore on a different biome, some gear and other stuff. Ypu don't need any DLCs to enjoy or play the base game only, as that already has a lot of content for you.

Wow, that's really adorable and amazing. I can't believe someone out there actually enjoys collectibles XD
You should definitely try AC Origins Gold Edition though, dude the amount of filler quests and collectibles there made me quit the game. I love to 100% every game I play, but when I feel like it's impossible, I just stop playing the game XD
Anyways, I hope you 2 have endless wonderful times together. Mad respect btw.

It's probably more that the wife likes to get full value out of everything.
We do have fun playing together, and I sometimes wonder If the neighbors can hear her yelling "stabbyy knife, stabby knife, behind you, KILL HIM" ha ha ha.
