We need a retriever dog so badly, why dont they give us one?
SO much small game and birds to hunt yet.... you gotta manually retrieve them and potentially lose some kills cause you forgot where they where. Why is hunter classic still miles a head of cotw? They get so many cool dogs. The german pointer and the retriever. The dog we have in cotw is ultra useless, like just blood tracking, rly?

I'm pretty happy with my bloodhound, but retrieving fowl would be great. sometimes the mallards drift away and are impossible to find after they are shot. a retriever would be awesome in those situations

The problem with dogs for me personally is that they are kind of redundant, especially the bloodhound. Unless you turn off the visual displays for better immersion, you can track your kills just fine, better even. The dog requires high maintenance to keep happy and efficient and treats cost money, so it's just more trouble than it is worth.

Same with a retriever. I can fetch those ducks myself, especially since prey in the water tends to float in your direction, and if you move then it moves with you. Just takes a little waiting.

The only exception I can see is the pointer because it might point out animals I'm not aware of, especially in dense vegetation. Beyond that, the only things dogs are good at is providing some sense of companionship for lone gamers... IRL dogs can be very useful but in this game they are just meh.

In other words, the mechanics in this game don't provide any sort of real benefit to having a dog other than its cuteness and companionship factor. But devs might add them anyway, because it makes people happy and it's another thing they can monetize.

In classic tyhe retriever is a godsend, same would be in cotw. i am SO tired of having to exit my blind and picking up ducks (if you find them again) 60-70-80 meters away. With a dog I could just send him on his way without having to leave my post and missing a crapton of ducks that fly over while youre picking up.

I think that would be the neatest things In game bringing small game back to you. And squirrel hunting Grey and Red squirrels. Running to and around a tree and being able to shooting them out of trees would be a blast Is a blast and they taste great. It would be a first for EW. I wonder how hard to write code for this and make It work for both .

Doesn't even defend me from wolves. He just stands there the lazy mutt and expects an overpriced cookie

Yeah I absolutely hate how you have to keep the dog happy. In classic you just give it a cookie for more exp after a succesful task and thats it. Idk why they ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up so badly in cotw. Thats not how dogs work lmao.

Can't help but agree.

However, we do have a dog now, so if EW doesn't want to go through the effort to create new breeds, they could just add the necessary codes to have our hound also retrieve birds.

However, if Classic could develop such a great dog hunting system, than shouldn't it's advanced successor be able to at least meet it?

Adding a retriever and being able to use two dogs would be awesome.

You do realize that you can keep your dogs at full happiness without the treats, right? I haven't bought a single one and mine is nearly constantly at "Best Friend" level. I just wish the happiness didn't decrease so quickly.

As Rex said, you dont need a single treat. I keep my dog happy just with preises. My dog can also help me to find blood trace. I often use it after i shot couple of birds and i want to be sure i didnt leave some trophy behind. Although hes not really effective as a defender, he warns me of predators attacks. For me hes rly good companion:)

The dog we have in CotW was fine until they broke something with a recent patch. Now it's just utterly useless, specially in rocky terrain, can't even go past a boulder, runs in circles or doesn't even respond to commands. Also still tramples like a mule, loud and annoying as heck. So yeah sorry Herbie, off duty for now.

OMG a retriever dog! What a great idea!!

More dogs in general! The bloodhound is cool, the animations & mechanics are already implemented, the effort to make more dogs should be smaller due to this.

+1, OP! I'd love more woofy companions!

It would be great to have a dog that can follow tracks of not wounded animals. You find a track, set the dog on it and it follows the animal until you find it. Oreven better, a dog that's able to go through the field to flush out game. Maybe some day??
ULTRA Feb 8, 2023 @ 11:30am
The reason is because the game has been on a shoestring budget forever and any evidence otherwise is just a testament to the complexity of the renderer and the initial effort put into the game
Humpenstilzchen Feb 8, 2023 @ 11:31pm
The dog is literally just a tamogotchy. You have to feed it and make it happy but it´s pretty much useless and annoying.
