The basic ones to get: ATVs, tents, portable hunting structures, all the basic weapons packs, the high tech hunting pack (enhanced, binos, range finders, night vision). Are you going waterfowl hunting? Get the Geese pack and/or the ducks pack. Gonna use muzzle loaders? get the smoking barrels pack.
If you are not sure, you can always start minimalist, and add on DLCs as you discover the need for them.
One caveat: if you buy only the basic game, and decide to add on, you might end up paying more than if you went for a bundle to start: Best value is the Diamond Bundle.
Some things in the simulation serve no useful purpose - like clothing. What your avatar wears has no effect on visibility in the field, but I suppose in multiplayer mode, it would make you fashionably chic.
way past 50 yards. So many weapons to choose from. This game Is not over priced , If you bought everything the amount of money still would be fair. You have enough to do In this game for years wait for It to go on sale If you have too. To be honest 20,00 per year Is pretty cheap to play a game and supporting It so It don't fold up.. Still the number one hunting game for now.......I know there Is one game out but from what I have seen I will wait until its fixed I mean a lot. 55.00 a lot of money for a game that should not have even been released for another year maybe more.EW can In six months could make all new everything from animal behavors to what ever, and I'm sure EW Is watching everything. I see no reason to jump ship yet or waist 55.00 dollars elseware. I'm sure EW going to have to step It up some down the road but for now the other hunting game still falls flat In some ways.......
The only one I might not recommend is the bloodhound. It does what it's intended to, actually to the point I got lazy having him track down wounded animals but he is LOUD as ♥♥♥♥. It's like walking the map with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bigfoot tabbing alongside you.
How you will prefer to play should determine your purchases.
IMHO, to get the most you can from this game I'd suggest getting the tent for mobile store/inventory access.
The ATV if you don't like hiking across miles of terrain.
The Yukon Reserve for the 300 as someone above pointed out. It is the best large game gun and a necessity in many cases.
The tripods allow for ambush tactics anywhere you choose, if you like scouting for your prey and setting up in their territory as opposed to chance encounter hunting. But if you think you would like to just start the game and wander/encounter, than you'll have no need for tripods. They are expensive and do require allowing for some passage of time before using after they are set up.
If you like bird hunting you definitely want to grab Revontuli, which BTW, is probably also the best map for moose, brown bear, and whitetail.
Silver Ridge Peaks is a great map for open woodland/pasture hunting.
As for maps, if one looks interesting to you find a multiplayer game to join and check out the map before deciding to buy. One of the good points of this game.
