Sounds like a stampede of animals nearby as said above.
The devs are aware but just like other issues that haven't been fixed for many years I hope this is not another one. Really the focus should be on resolving this asap.
@James, I named my dog Bigfoot because he doesnt sound like a little 40 pound dog but more like a 300 pound bigfoot.
@Snail Rancher, I hope youre right about when it might be fixed. For me, this was very close to gamebreaking. True story here. The other day I was hunting for bear in LL. Of course my dog was being almost louder than my footsteps. I was in the crouched position and was following some bear tracks. I thought I heard something other than mine and my dogs footsteps so I stopped moving. Of course my dog kept moving and making noise, but I still thought something else was close by...so I turned around...and lo and behold, there was a bull moose no more than 20 or 30 yards behind me. Looked like he was stalking me. Haha. Anyway I raise my rifle to take a shot and my dog tries to stand in the way so I cant take a shot but I got a shot off before that could happen. Good clean lung shot. He only ran about 50 yards before he dropped. Funny thing is, a couple seconds before I pulled the trigger, the bull moose let out a warning call. LOL.
If my dog wouldnt make all that noise that it does, I would have heard the moose sooner.
Oh and by the way, I lost the bear tracks I was following. They led to a feeding area where there were a dozen other bear tracks it seemed.
My dog's a kennel dog only.
Any IRL hunters that use a tracking dog want to chime in? I am sure there are trade-offs IRL, and noise and spooking the prey are IRL trade-offs.
