Well that answered a lot of questions. Guess I need to see if I can get the Hawk Edge ( I started over) and see what happens. It definitely won't be the ammo for rifle/pistol. The 70# draw weight compound bow, especially with both tiers of pumping iron, has no problems with a double lung at 20 meters. Heck, if the x-ray view is believed, I've had shots that were a complete pass through at that range.
Spine shots got changes quite awhile back. You now have to hit the spinal chord for an instant drop and not just the spinal column. I still can't see an animal running that far though and don't think any of mine have.
tbh an easy bandaid solution would be to just allow us to not harvest and instead respawn the animal back into the world to try hunting again. i know you can avoid harvesting in the first place and it'll respawn, but unless you already checked for a vital organ hit, once you open that harvest screen its too late. as it is, if you hit a potential diamond or rare skin, ALWAYS check for a vital organ hit blood splat before harvesting. if it wasnt a vital, reload game and try again.
I heard The Way of the Hunter has a 40 hrs game play bug that effects sound. I wonder if this is similar.
