Probably more of a technicality that gun lobbyists came up with so they can sell military grade weapons for general public. :steammocking:

What? It's a literal fact. ArmaLite is a company. They produced the AR-15 in the 50s. It was designed by Eugene Stoner. Do some research.

*edit*

Also, I don't think the term "military grade" means what you think it means. Again, do some research.

Yeah must be why you see every para-military bunch of yahoos in US running around with AR-15s.
There was even Federal Assault Weapons Ban to restrict the sale of Colt AR-15 and its derivatives at some point.

There's another option to consider if, like me, you seldom take shots past 250m and are comfortable with your shooting skills. The 50 cal. black powder rifle. Single shot and slow to reload but it has (with the mine ball) the same penetration as the 30-06 but three times the expansion. Every moose I've shot with it dropped where it stood but it's still considered ethical for level 4 animals. But if you're a long distance shooter forget it, the ball drops too fast.

Love this rifle because of the large class range coverage...3-7 with round ball and 4-8 with minie ball.

Assault Weapon is not Assault Rifle. Assault Rifle has an actual definition going back to the 1940s/50s starting with the first of its kind the Sturmgewehr, which is exactly the definition.

Intermediate calibre select fire rifle with a magazine,

Assault weapon is a vague term used to describe whatever you want it to.

AR-15 has managed to become rather synonymous I suppose because people dont bother to look into or beyond "AR".

On topic I do love the M1 Garand 30-06 just because of the 5 shot stripper clip. That and its the Garand.

hm, i dont like these army rifles for hunting. class 6 i higly suggest the english .303 Sporter. very accurate, effective and nice to shoot with open sights too.

But i´m now in this new hunting game .... which has the same flaws like CotW :-(

@ wrinklycrotchskin, I agree with you on the extremity of assault weapon sports, but the money behind it all is as powerful as oil, and where money hides, so does power and the manipulating hipocritical deployment of propoganda.

No escape!
I'll hunt a lot of small game..and i would never choose anything but a Drilling :)
For a while I thought that the 308 is the best class 4-8 rifle, but I have returned to my old friend, the 303. The 308 offers the best follow up-shot performance (if skilled, you can make three shots instead of two before animals fleeing), but the accuracy and penetration of the 303 makes it - IMO - the best choice. But for people, who need cash, I guess, the 308 is the best choice
And if you do not have any DLC's, the 7 mm is unique though it only offers one shot at a time.
6.5 MM is the best IMO from what i've seen. long range, accurate, not a lot of recoil, and have seen literally every animal in game taken with one by my girl who uses this gun almost exclusively.

personally i like xbows/and shottys. long range is boring AF.

also the addition of the AR's to this game was a joke IMO and pandering to get sales due to their popularity IRL.. I mean who doesn't want to run around the forest with a semi auto rifle like a good little 'soldier' blasting animals with the new hip fire 'sight'.. NO ty. thats not hunting its arcade run and gun. 100% pass here.

ya girls gonna get taken by an AR chad
one of the major benefits of any "AR" platform rifle in what ever caliber you prefer is, the modularity of them. i.e. you can mix and match uppers and lowers, you can adjust recoils with buffers and springs, you can have plenty of optics etc. bottom line, the AR platform has allot of customization, as apposed to most "standard" hunting rifles. functionally there is very little difference from a AR platform rifle chambered in .308 and a standard bolt action chambered in .308. the big difference is follow up shot time, and i can manage recoil with muzzle options, buffer springs, and buffer weights. plus i can have a ton of optic options.

This is honestly such a fudd take. Plenty of hunters in real life hunt with AR-15 and AR-10 pattern rifles and it isn't to feel like a "soldier." It's because of the modularity of said rifles. Picatinny rails make mounting almost any optic easy, and you can put any trigger, stock, grip, you name it on the rifle. AR-15s and AR-10s also have different options for cartridges as well. Judging by this thread, the target audience for this game isn't all hunters, but mostly fudds who think people who hunt with semi-automatic rifles are just wannabe soldiers.

Edit: also what is a "hipfire sight?" I've never seen that in-game before.

.303 and 7mm are the best, 223 and .270 are the worst.
i wonder which one is best right now against tier6 animals. after all the changes and updates. 30-06 has higher penetration(45) on paper, but the 7mm penetration(40) feels same, or even better?! what do you think which rifle hits hardest against tier6?
