You aim for the chest just behind the shoulder. Hunting, in real life or in a game, is not COD.

Yup, unless you hit their pea sized brains you aint killing it anytime soon, just wound it while it gets to die from a lack of a jaw over the next 2 weeks.
Which is exactly why you dont aim for the head, lungs are the prime target.

You can also ruin the trophy depending on the animal. Besides the kill 10 animals with head shots ach avoid shooting them in the head at all. It isn't a good thing to become accustomed to when hunting for high ranking trophy's.

Not even snipers go for head shots generally speaking. Why aim at something that is small, well protected and moves around a lot? Biggest vitals are the lungs they are easier to hit, less well protected and the target is just as dead at the end of the day.

The game encourages ethical hunting. It doesn't reward head shots. Plus the head is often the trophy, no point in blasting it off.

Headshots haven't really worked on CotW for well over 18 months now, bud!! Best to aim at the chest, more vitals organs to hit there, and better chance for a kill.

This is not a zombie game.

I've shot cape buffalo in the head in the game many many times consecutively and they often won't fall. Put one between the shoulders while they are making the charge, it's all she wrote.

yup its stupid, but its the mechanics of the game... the heart is smaller but we are encouraged to shoot it. with the right calibre rifle a head shot would be fine. But also the tiniest twig will deflect any shot forcing it to miss completely. Its dum but still fun to play

It's not dumb, it's accurate. There are reasons that things like barrier blind rounds exist, even the smallest obstruction within the bullet trajectory can disrupt the path and send the shot off target. It's a small, spinning object that relies on its rotation to maintain a stable flight path. Anything in that flight path has the potential to throw the round off target.

[Bullets in real life do not work the same way they do in most video games/movies.]

When I first purchased the game (back a while ago), and on my first hunt I was able to get off a very lucky shot when I had a bear charging me, and I had no choice to take it otherwise I would have been flayed. I have never been able to do it again which only shows me personally that It was pure luck on my part.

I rarely go for the head if ever. Lung shots are the best way to make a kill.
