The second time I knew what was about to go down but it is still crazy. Not so sure about being trapped as they leave then about 30 seconds later they all run through and around the same area again which is repeated several times over. Then their just gone for good.
Just like finding that natural funnel beside Kraken lake, or the N. side of the lake at the Roonachee W. outpost, or...
Maybe a year or so from now they'll fix these as well. I don't "hunt" these spots anymore, unless I have the need to go out and test theories. It's just a shooting gallery type area. (Well, they did "fix" the Kraken one, so I do hunt there for some nice long shots.)
Same
Been their 3 times and am over it ,too busy doing missions which for me is far more satisifying. But I have seen a lot of crazy things in this game so far and they will probably continue.

Well... there IS a way to see this. :D
Spawn points in certain areas seem to have a higher percentage of certain animals (which is why you see more bear in one area than the next - for example).
This specific area has more deer/elk/moose (and to a lesser extent, fox). But there's a process where you can force the spawn, and force it to be more of a specific animal (at least right around you).
Let me give you an example using bear.
(3&4 are just steps I've always done when leaving the game - not sure if it needs to be done.)
1) Find a location on the map where bear are more common (I like hunting Roonachee, especially south of the outpost on both sides of the tracks).
2) Set up a tent in an area where you've seen bear (an area without hunting pressure). Even better if you know it's a spawn point. But you can see from the video, it can work anywhere.
3) Set your time to a time you'd like to hunt (let's say 5:28)
4) Wait 2 in-game minutes (5:30) and exit the game.
5) Go back into the game and immediatly start spamming the bear call. Give it a good 10 hits or so. Wait.
Within 2 minutes (real time) of entering the game, you should have a mess of bear spawn nearly on top of you and run like mad. You will see tracks when you go in, but as you wait you will see depressions appear in the grass around you (if you are in a grassy area), then you will see new tracks appear. I always seem to see a spawn of rabbits/squirrels right before the animal spawn.
There are times when this won't work, but most of the time it does for me. I think a person's initial herd spawn, when they started the game, has a lot to do with it as well. It also doesn't work very well if you are in a "dead zone". But if you find a good spot it will work.
As I said, this area here is more deer/elk/moose, and if you were to set up a tent there, below the field on the trail, do the same thing and call for elk, more elk will appear. But with that you have to remember that a spawn may be more male than female, and you will see maybe 4 or 5 bull elk, or 20 cows.
I made this video to show you what I'm talking about (Yes, I sped up parts of the video to keep it from being so long).

WTF kind of black magic did i just witness!!!
I was always under the impression that the spawn in your immediate area happened upon entering the game (like when you hear calls as you drop in). And when I would sit in my favorite spot and enter the game, I would call. I started to notice animals just appearing, and I moved to another spot (I didn't want to just hunt a spawn point). But when I went to another spot and called, the same thing would happen. And I noticed that the animal I was calling would normally spawn in greater numbers. Just a weird discovery.
