Red Kill Zones - how long they last?
Hey
So I just started a few days ago, my red kill zones seem to be lasting a long time. I do have two kills I could not find, do the kill zones stay red until you find the carcass? Is there a way to do that after you have lost the trail,or does the blood trail stay until the kill is found? Please help

it depends on how quick you make kills, they will last as long as the newest kills you did, when you do more kills the older ones will disappear.

as for the blood trail, if its a vital hit they won't last long and will die soon, if its a non vital hit they wuill run away. the kill zones (Hunter Pressure is what the game calls it) only mean blood splatter was in that area and animals will avoid that area until it disappears

Ok thank you

here is a good example, the bottom right color is a new kill, the left side one is older so its darker, and the top + looking one means its almost gone

and the more kills ya do in an area the brighter the color gets and looks like this

The hunting pressure will also fade from the map after around 2-3 days of in-game play time.

Nah its not based on days its based on kills, cause my oldest ones were on the map forever when all i was doing was walking around activating green dots and activating the undiscovered sections of the map and that took way longer then 2 - 3 days

a certain number of kills has to be on the map before the older ones start to fade

I'm pretty sure PicSoul is right on this. It's based on time (in game), and the amount of time depends on how bright (how much pressure) the area had. For example: If I shoot 10 deer in 10 different locations, all within 10 minutes, those 10 different pressure zones would disappear quickly. But if I took 10 deer all within 10 minutes, and all at the same location, it's going to take exponentially longer for that to disappear.

Let's think about your idea logically: If it was based on how many you killed, and each kill created yet another zone, you would never have a map free of hunting pressure. That's simply not the case.

well I am only telling the experience I had soo.... I havn't done a kill in many in game days because of the exploring and I still have hunting pressure all over

its based on kills, 11 from what i personally have found. I had a very bright purple( 16 kills in one area) never disappeared after 3 days (irl). So i tested the time vs kill theory and hunted another area 18 kills (one area). they other area faded almost completely. So im pretty certain the hunting pressure fades after you create in another area from kills not time

I wiped out the pressure and reset the animals after quite a while and a lot of kills. Not going to do it often. But in the real world after hunting season and the new animals are born there would be a new generation and the young would grow up and become adults.

I just copied the "animal_population" in C:\Users\your name here\Documents\Avalanche Studios\theHunter Call of the Wild\Saves\76561198014696633 for safety. Opened it with Notepad (not readable), selected all contents and deleted it then saved the file empty. Result, next time I opened the game the animals and pressure points were reset. The number in the number folder is different for each user.

Well, the Codex does say it will disapper as it appears elsewhere, but I'm starting to think it's a combination of both. Maybe there's a time aspet as well as a maximum number of zones that can be created. I know I've had them disappear on their own without me doing any killing. (Back when the population bug hit. When we got ATVs and I spent my time playing with those. When I spent my time climbing all the peaks in Layton. When I learned how to exit the reserve, without being kicked back in, and explored all the areas outside the map.)

You don't have to go to all that trouble - you can simply delete the file (unless you have cloud backup on). But there's really no point in doing it unless you suffer from the population bug. The developers have said that the herd population is mean to stay constant throughout game play.

The only thing deleting the file accomplishes is to recreate an initial herd, and the only thing that's going to result in is unnatural numbers of animals at spawns when you enter the game after deleting it, and if you continue deleting it, an unnatural number of high scoring animals and those with rare color variations.

That sounds like a expoilt to get the best animals in the game to just continue deleting that file.
