Efficient ways of killing Cape buffalo?
Since recently they've became quite literal tanks does anyone know a good way of killing them? 338 barely penetrates them along with 470 so far from what I've seen really only the Rhino handgun seems to work but even so it can take up 2-5 shots to even take down a Buffalo I've also heard 338 soft tips work but from my experience they're even worse then poly tips but anyhow anyone know a good way?

I forget the name of the gun but it is a 2 shot gun and is for large game. 1 shot drops them easily.

Also the 600gr arrow will drop them.

470, 600 gr arrow or bolt w/ the 70lb bow/crossbow.

Is the 600 gr arrow still effective even if they're charging you head on?

been getting a lot gold kills with the 7mm rifle and .338 with heart shots and head shots , mostly silver , the arrow's work well but need to get much closer, use the steeper terrain to your advantage then they dont come get you as much , they get stuck or slow off in steep inclines , i use distance or across a valley to get larger numbers of kills with them .if we had tree stands or try-pods or other means to get above the shrubs would get a lot more and less danger ! if you get one they all scatter off, wait several mins they all come back if a zone, but you only get about 4 times before that stupid pressure prog comes into play !

I once dropped a wood bison with a brain shot using the .338. Perhaps that would also work on cape buffalo. If its charging you try using a double 12g shotgun with slugs to shoot it in the head and have the "boomstick" perk on(shoots both barrels at once).

.470 jacketed, side on. If they are charging, aim for the tip of the nose if his head is down, or centre of nose if head up, and be ready with the second barrel.

With charges, either cartridge works well, but you want to hit him close to centre chest, so placement is everything...main thing to remember is not to panic and aim your shot.

338 with soft point, not poly tipped. Knocks them down quick with lung shot.

I would expect the 470 to work a lot better with lung shots than it currently does. More often than not, the animals end up with less than 100% quick kill from a double lung shot.

I could understand that happening if using any of the other weapons in the game, but this rifle came with the DLC specifically for these animals, and at 90K, it's definitely not a cheap option.

Double lung with the appropriate weapon works on every other animal in the game. Cape/Water buffalo should be no different.

It's hard to score an instant kill on Buffs of any type. Use a heart or brain shot with a 7mm or larger and keep your first aid kit handy. For side on shots you have to be close to get double lung penetration. So far, I haven't found anything that will reliably/consistently put one down for 100% QK at 100m+. While using the .338 I had to put 3 breadbasket shots at less than 50m into a Cape Buff before one of them did more than net a flesh wound and that was using polys.

The most reliable way to drop them instantly is a head-on shot between the eyes with the .338 or 7mm. Ironic, cause irl a head shot should be your last choice.

The vast majority of my buffalo have been under 15m, and they haven't killed me yet. You just have to get in close.
