How good are bows for hunting really?
I decided to give the compound bow a try again tonight. I had good luck with it previously and had been able to buy the Razorback Lite CB-60.

I am just using the 420g broadhead arrows.

Anyway I was sitting around using a caller and looking for any rabbits to see them and I noticed a whitetail deer come wandering over the ridge. It was about 200m away and coming close so I kept an eye on it and let it get in nice and close, about 15m away and I lined up and shot it.

It droped straight away. Cool. No need to hunt it down. But what's this? Another one following it and just a bit further away 24m and zip, dropped it as well with a single shot.

Not bad if I do say so myself.

Do you get the same type of shots and drops when bow hunting?

yep, unless I am doing a mission that requires a specific weapon I prefer to use a bow. The new crossbow is awesome. Dropped a bear in its tracks at 50 meters just a little while ago.

Cool. I haven't bought the new weapons yet but will buy them on monday.

Thanks for the news.

Crossbow is great, due to sights....

The new hand bow, is the most disgusting, and in-accurate weapon ive ever used.

There is NO proper management to using it, just spent about 2hours in the firing range with the new bow and crossbow, crossbow is amazing, doesnt twang over 200m though, but still amazing, but the actualy recurce/hand bow is TERRIBLE.

Fires UP, fires LEFT, fires DOWN, theres no specific pattern, or proper mechanic to working it, infact, i havent been able to effectively hit a centre target, unless under 50m....even then, very in-accurate.

Sounds like they have modeled it accurately.

I had a recurve bow and it was wildly inaccurate until you learnt how to draw and hold it.

I've bowhunted irl for years and have never even attempted a shot at 50+ meters. That's well beyond reliable range for a bow. I often hesitate to take a shot at 30 meters.

As for the game, the bows are really good if you're at 30 meters or less. Because of the damage done by the broadhead even realitvely minor flesh wounds lead to fatal bleeding and quick kills.

Other than that, having used every weapon in the game, for me there's nothing quite as satisfying as the sound of a broadhead slamming into a whitetail.

I dropped a white or black tail deer this morning with the Houyi bow and it was nice until I read the 0% integrity bonus. You can only hunt the Roosevelt Elk and Brown Bear with it. It is nice though.

I use the Longbow in Classic alot and take most my shots under 30 yards.

new to the game but bowhunted in my youth, The bow in this game is OP, way overpowered, nothing outside of 50 meters is alerted by the shot so its a great weapon to crouch and just keep moving, animals just keep coming in, its working great for me and im just using starter sights and starter bow, havent tried the dlc yet,

The bow is my favorite weapon right now.
I'll try the crossbow this weekend. I see everyone seems happy with it.

The Hawk Edge bow and level 2 of pumping iron also help quite a bit for 1 shot kills. I've stretched out to 79.53yds for a spine shot on a reindeer. The bulk of my bow kills average about 25yds or so though.

not uncommon with a bow , do mostly bow huntting on all maps now days for evey thing , can get up to 10+ kills in good area at a time , if your still and rightly placed and call them back a lot ,just watch your wind and must have 1 kill shots ,once they stop coming in move off out the the presure zone and strat again with multi double calling with deer caller , mite take a few times to get it right depends on area your in wooded or open lakes works same

Diro I posted this screenshot on another discussion but I'll include it here too to hopefully reassure you that the bow itself is exceedingly astonishingly accurate. No sights and shooting at 100m with zero misses from ten shots means the in-game bow is if anything just too good:

People hunt for sport. They don't hunt for food these days. Those real life reserves are full of tame animals for killing. It isn't even difficult, not like in the wild.
