Pheasants advice and whistle check.

I've been finding the Pheasants are being difficult.
They don't seem to be very fond of flying. My current tactic is to go sneaky and get closeish to them, and then when ready running at them, gun out and hope they take off so I can start shooting.
I remember in Classic you could whistle and startle them into flying. But when I try the whistle IN COTW it doesn't seem to do anything.

Anyone got any advice or tips on how to correctly deal with the Pheasants?

You have the right tactic. They don’t respond to the “X” whistle. Kind of a PIA to be honest.

I just completed the mission in RdA where I have to shoot a pheasant in the air and pass the harvest check.

It was funny, I saw it land as I was driving the atv so I gunned for it remembering reading this post that its hard to get them to fly. Even with the atv at 10m from the bird it didn't fly it just ran away clucking. I jumped off the atv and started running after it with my shotgun w/ birdshot in hand. I swear it looked like I almost stepped on the thing before it took off and flew off haha...of course then it was over :)

Thanks for doing the unofficial test dude. I was in Mexico reserve last night and those Pheasants are a right pain. I was running after them like a madman. Seems like I have to take a shot for them to fly. I think the Teal in Mississipi are having the same issue. Those prefer to use their legs rather than wings too. I was hoping they would have the same mechanic as the Pheasants in Classic, where you could walk up to them and it was only when you were right on top of them that they fled. Or use the Whistle to spook them and get them to fly.

They are the most unfun animal for me to hunt in the game. They flee on the ground when you're way too far away and rarely attempt to fly. Not very realistic at all.

These things are dumb as a rock irl. See them around my acreage quite often and you can get so close before they even attempt to run. Most of the time they will almost just freeze while running a cross the road too and nearly get hit so often.

I prefer to just walk along and if they give a warning then i run at them and look up I tend to run into a good number of them, sometimes you will find something even fatter flying through the air really is funny watching turkeys fly and then make a thud.

Hey I have been shotgun hunting pheasants tonight, they are kind of fun in that when you scare them into the air, they are so dumb they don't always fly away from you, often they fly overhead and over you. I noticed I will scare them, they fly and I turn 180 degrees and blast them in the air, just like quail.

Yep turkeys will do the same had one hunt where a turkey was flying so low it actually flew into me, hope they add flushing dogs then it would be a real party.
