Calling Animals In (too precise??)
Is it just me? or do animals that are called come directly towards you as though led by a laser?

I’ve hunted and watched a lot of hunting videos where moose, elk, and deer are called in, and they don’t come at you i a straight line. Sometimes they stray to the left or right.

In my experience with COTW the animals all come directly at you and they ONLY available shots are frontal shots. I feel like there should be more delay and curiosity on the part of the animals. They should stop to look around, approach from left or right, and be a bit more cautious. Anyone else?

I also don't like this mechanic, called from 200m from behind a hill they exactly know in which bush you are and come a little too close.

Why are you guys waiting where you call from. The best way to avoid frontal shots and being stood on is to move off to one side 20 or 30 metres from where you call from and set up your ambush..

That's quite correct DanthemanBoone!! When I opt to use a call I select a hiding spot, then based upon my view and wind direction from that spot I select a place to call from. I then move to the calling spot, call, then scoot back to the hiding spot. I'm not talking about those places being 50m or more apart. 10-20 does fine in forested areas, as does simply going prone in more open areas.

IRL hunters call from where they shoot, whether it be a blind, stand, or Bush. Many times the “big” bull or buck is the last to come in, so moving isn’t always an option. Cows and Does are often too close to reposition safely.

Animals in game come to the last point where you called from. Sit still in a bush and they'll come face on. Call then move to the side, simple. (except for foxes, coyotes and cats. they'll sometimes come in all directions but always towards where the call was).

The higher level animals don't seem to always come DIRECTLY towards me unless I am in an ideal position.... instead they often come in a round-about fashion. But the lower level/easy ones do come directly towards me

I don’t know about you guys, but I ain’t hunting female. I’m hunting bucks, bulls, and boars. They usually require way more then a single call or spray from a scent to lure them in. This tactic your providing sounds effective with doe, cows, and maybe sow, but I’m hunting big trophies only. You can’t simply call in a big trophy, reposition and hope it comes in. It’s gonna take a lot more effort and patience, so moving around after it’s close is risky due to their increased awareness.

In real life though, even when the biggest trophies do venture in, they often do at random angles providing more then just a frontal shot.

It would be nice if the devs could make some type of changes so that things aren’t so predictable and repetitive. It’s a frontal shot after frontal shot every time. I appreciate all the replies and workarounds everyone has provided, but we shouldn’t be required to adjust our position to avoid constant frontal shots. Some players appear content and settle for what they get, me? I know this game has so much potential to be better.

In my experience, you never hear a call (mating or warning) from a 'diamond' class animal. This is why it's not recommended to run everywhere, they'll hear/see/smell you and just move away before you get near and you'll never know they were there.
Also, they tend to ignore your calls for the most part. Your chances for "big trophies" will come from finding the heaviest tracks and stalking, or coming upon them luckily out in the open from distance.

Yes I am aware of how diamonds are way more elusive. I actually consider gold rated trophies as big. Golds are what what I was referring too.

This is one of those mechanics which is done cheaply, it is the same when an animal calls, you can almost pinpoint exact their location, I'm sure the AI works in the same, it goes straight to the point where the call came from.

Completely agree with OP. It would be the same as if they had given us 100% precise weapons, and no wobbling.

You can disable the visual indicator for animal calls

Here's a video I made a couple days ago and how I use the callers.
Skip to 2.50 First part bit boring..No commentary..

Yes, but my point was visualizing how the AI is working, they get a call from a spot and they start to migrate straight to that coordination where the call came from, very precisely.
DanthemanBoone Feb 20, 2019 @ 2:17pm
Simple. The animals in the game do not hear a call. When you use the caller it places an attraction point on the map right where you use it. All animals tied to that caller will head for that co ordinate. Depending on how high the trophy rating of the animal is, will determine how much resistance that animal will have to the attraction point. Top rated animals might ignore the attraction point altogether.
