Coyote and 243
What’s up with the 243 vers a coyote?
Been using it for over a year with no problem, now all I get is flesh wounds from 100 meters out. Something is up

Yes I would think. A 243 will drop a deer with the correct shot and bullet, and I use it for boar also.

Shot a few yesterday with 243 poly and had no problems. Well one missed the heart which was annoying but because I zero'd wrong. Now just have to down 4 with a bow and of course they no longer even exist seemingly. What ammo were you using? Low pen ammo seems particularly weak against predators. It's like they model muscle as being more dense.

I use the 243 poly. Can’t understand it because it usually puts them down. Had a heart shot prone 100 meters out, just a flesh wound, no penetration. No clue

Odd. I'm not sure how the game models shooting thru foliage but could that have been an issue?

243 stuck with beginner weapon dilemma , most of its stats is just bad despite being a really good gun irl .
Its best advantage is zero to dirt cheap Ammo cost ....

The stats are more of a guideline; they don't always appear to correspond to how the weapons behave in the game. The 243 is decent for the right animals, with good shot placement.

A few things are acting weird. Was attacked by a wolf and shot it all 6 rounds with a .44 pistol, it kept getting up, shot it point black 30-06, still got up. Finally pulled out the .300 Magnum and took it down. It was only a silver rank best case scenario.

He meant the gun performs worse in the game than in real life because it's available from the start.

I have been shooting coyote with 243 for a while now with no issues. yesterday I had two flesh hits from 30 meters which I had to chase down. Really not sure if my aim was impossibly bad or something fishy happened.

EDIT: Went to the range and tested the 243. Found the issue: Ironsights and zeroing are broken. At 50 meters 243 zeroed to 75 meters shoots very low. Zeroed to 300 is far more accurate. No such issue while using a sight. Zeroing works fine with optics. Tested the 30-06 and it doesn't have the same issue. Zeroing it to 300m and shooting @50m gives you high shots. Zero to 75 and shoots perfectly unlike the 243.

Solution: Make sure you are not using ironsights with the 243 or if you must - zero to 300 meters.

While 243 cover quite a bit of small to medium game , if i want to get the job done with no issue i would use the gun fit for such task , for example when hunting coyote , the 223 will kill them without an issue . Heck even Model 86 will penetrate and killl roe deer easily ( cover the same animal class ) despite being shorter range .

Yea, sure it works and it's realistic but it's not optimal in the game. The 243 is just as accurate and much more powerful. It's also free. The 223 doesn't have a place in the game currently, unless they move the 243 back to class 4. Personally, if I am going to use something else, I would go for the air rifle. At least it's silent.

223 is lighter iirc so if you're struggling to get under weight for an extra caller or something it's an option. Otherwise yeah 243 a straight upgrade.

i always use 243 for vermin, the trick is that you need to get to 150m or closer for it to be accurate and effective. I also use the max scope.

Good to know about the iron sights zeroing bug! I usually only pull the scope when dealing with an aggressive close range animal, so that's why I hadn't noticed it (243 would not be what I reach for in that scenario).
