You are correct that the need zones will disappear once it gets bright, but I keep forgetting the actual amount you can kill with a tripod, ground blind or tree stand as I barely need to kill more than 3.
By default, need zones disappear by 4 kills.
With hunting stands, if I remember correctly, it's 14, but don't recall me on that.
Edit:
I also believe the region animals spawn in, is affected by the amount of need zones present within that area.
The popular opinion is that if you kill the only animal using a need zone then you destroy the need zone. I know for a fact that if a weed tells me one deer is eating or resting at that spot and I kill it then that glowing weed is going to vanish. Other glowing weeds that might be nearby will not be effected. Some need zones can encompass an area over 100 meters in size.
based on the information you have given me, I wonder if I have to do it in the same map or in other maps such as the yukon etc.
This is something you will have to memorize once you get the information, however can really throw you off if multiple groups use the same zone.
Personally I have never seen a gemsbok group larger than 12, with the most common numbers being 6 to 8.
And yes, the previous replies applies to every reserve
To learn how zones are associated with specific species is key to hunting in this game.
