Have new animals been introduced for existing maps before? Would love to see Crocs for Africa

They have introduced new species to existing maps before. The most recent, I think, were European rabbits to Hirschfelden. I'm hopeful that new ducks will come to Mississippi when they re-work the waterfowl (supposedly) in early 2022.

The updates we have had where to the base game, not DLC maps.

Commercially it makes less sense to add animals to DLC maps since they already have your money. But i agree it would be cool.

Gemsbok and lions where integrated to Vurhonga Savanna after it was already out for a while, so it is not true, that they only added new animals to the base game. Would be a possible addition, but I think for some reserves like Medved it is more likely to have something included, while there are just fewer species compared to reserves like Vurhonga.

yes but that was a deperate case because of the pushback africa got because it didn't have any of the african animals you'd expect to be fair. although that would be a reason to add crocs too.

As far as I know Lions were actually already in the pipeline. However, at that time, there was still a lot of work to be done on the predator behavior in general. This work being done along side developing the Puma for PF.

Other than the obvious stuff, predator behavior presents additional unique challenges such as faster/more agile = more refined pathing system needed. AI Pathing is often times among the most challenging parts of game development because it's impossible to get perfect, easy to screw up, requires significant consideration of the majority of graphical/collision assets, and has to be scaled proportionally to the animations (preferably). The faster the movement and maneuvering AI needs to have, the harder it is to get right and the longer it takes.

As for crocs on Savanna, IMO it is probably more likely that the next Africa map has them than adding them to Savanna. They probably would want to save that "card" for making a new Africa map unique compared to the other. That is, if they intend on adding crocs to an Africa map

Also I'm not saying a new Africa map is definitely coming, but it does seem quite likely to happen... from a logical standpoint.... as Africa is unbelievably huge and features about every type of climate, species, and atmosphere you can think of. You could probably have 3 to 6 additional maps being very unique from one another just from Africa alone - which is the logic I'm using in my prediction that we will get one.

One last note - the majority of crocs in Africa would not be found in the Savanna.

Was just talking about this the other day. There's literally dozens of hoofstock species that are hunted on a regular basis, alongside lots of other unique african game animals like the aforementioned crocodiles, baboons, vervet monkey, leopard, and if you wanted to go for something particularly large you could hunt problematic hippos in certain areas.

agree and hippos, rhinos elephants baboons and monkeys. monkeys just for fun not to kill.

But with monkeys it would force their hand to address the elephant in the room that they refuse to look at. Puma's, for example, climb trees to avoid predators in their territory such as bear. But no cat in the game uses a tree. Monkeys use trees because it is the safest place but someone needs to determine how to make the engine do that. And I personally do not think that they have the skill to do that. And they have already stated (somewhere) that the behavior engine is so difficult to do that only a few people are allowed to touch it.

yeah this game would be so much better in unreal or another common engine, such a shame.

what i do not get is that there's no competition whatsoever... all other hunting games are even worst.. how is that possible? cotw does WELL compared to 90% of steam games..

Dude, I am from Africa and your last statement is wrong .... partially. There are actual recordings, till this very day, recorded about Croc attacks in Savanna. People dying because of Crocs. I mean FFS, Crocs just walk around on the Golf Course. So there are no shortage of Crocs in Savanna.

You get for example the Nile Crocodile which is the most agressive and teritorial predator out there. Then you get your Common Crocodile which is chilled.

Is the MAJORITY of Gators and Crocs there? Prob not. But there are 100% Crocs in the Savanna

Rhinos are actually endangered specie in Africa. White Rhino and Black Rhino. Though this is a game really. So wouldn't see no harm here.

They mention one rhino being left in Vurhonga so maybe that's something that wouldn't appear. Rhino did used to be part of the "Big Five" which was considered the five popular big game animals to hunt in Africa, the other four being Lion, Leopard, Cape Buffalo, and Elephant.
