Reasons why i start to betray this game right now.

I played this Game for just a while (maybe a year) and i remember the feeling when i first played it. I was in Love!!! That much that i bought all dlc instantly. Then the first Bugs did appear. Broken Savegames caused by cloud saves. Crashes when open the Huntermate and so on. I could live with that. I just had started and got not much to loose.
Then, after a few updates and more dlcs some maps became unplayable. (big thing for me because i loved Medved :C)
But ok. There are other maps to play on. They´ll fix it for sure. And they did. Everything was fine.
I spend many and many of hours discovering Maps, doing misssions or just by Foto Safari.
I leveled up. Bought new Weapons that i unlocked. After every session i made a backup of my saves with the awesome COTW Backup Program (you can find it here under the Tips and Tricks threat.).
I was getting better and better. Hunting felt more like some kind of relaxing meditation.

But NOW:
Missisippi was released. I was hyped. Really. Ok its a small map with only a handful of missions in constant rain and bugged gators. but for 5 euro its ok.
I thought cool. Lets play together and joined a few random servers and oh lord it was great.
No cheaters, no griefers just nice persons all over.
CRASH! OK. One time. Happens. New server new map. Half an Hour: CRASH. Not my Day. Next: One Hour. CRASH.
I gave up. Searching the problems. Maybe its on my side. Internet connection lost? Who knows.
Then the big Bang: I was playing SP on savannah and clicked on Main Menu. Black Screen with a mouse cursor on it. Alt Tab. Nothing. Strg Alt Del. Nothing! Bad.
Fact is: I had to shut down my pc completly and restart it.
As i started the Game today it says (what else) broken savegame. Shiver me timbers. I restored my Backup but it turns out that all saves are broken.
I have to restart from scratch.
Now what i´m gonna do is:
Bring my level back. Bring my Weapon points back. bring my money back and everything else that have gone missing.
I know this is not the last time i´m forced to do this. And you all know how i´ll do this right.
I´m pretty angry but i´m not willing to give up. If i have to do this, please don´t blame me.

I had played much less than you and kinda feel this way. Found out this game like 2 weeks ago. Loved it instantly. Already had 70 hours of play, bought 4 DLCs was playing online till 2 AM.

Then yesterday I was so excited that I shot my first albino, a blacktail, his health was dropping quickly and suddenly all his trackings stopped. The corpse was nowhere to be seen. I squandered every cm of grass and water on a 300 meters radium around the last tracking, it cost me precious hours IRL, like a rescue team after an airplane crashes in sea. Nothing, then I check this forum and realized its probably a bug unleashed when they released the new map. I gave up absolutely fuming and uninstalled the game.

This a big bug, maybe the most serious I ever saw on a reasonable famous game. Its on its very “raison d’etre” = killing and collecting animals. Is like unblocking a rare cristiano ronaldo card on FIfA and he disappears from your team, or your Dodge Viper being nicked from your garage on Gran Turismo. Absolutely unforgivable!!!

I may reinstall this game after next update, but thing is I dont trust this game anymore. Its not worthy the grind. Ive also read horrible things about animals disappearing from the trophy lodge forever. A shame that a beautiful, addictive game be ruined by silly, but crucial bugs. Remind me the game “Rulers of nations” which had awesome potential but I just gave up playing because of the bugs.

I warn you that COTW is just UNPLAYABLE at the moment with this missing corpses bug.

@Thiago SB. Dont give up. I normally use this game to relax. I´ve got that invisible corpses bug not a single time. What i had is that i´m shooting Blanks. !00 meter distance. aim at lungs. shoot........nothing. I´m still hopeful that they will patch it. This bs happens every time they release something. It seems noone tested it. BTW do you have a dog ingame. It helps a lot. sometimes even the footprints disapear and i just follow my dog. BTW its not only the Dodge Viper...ITS ALL everything is gone for me! I had to reset all options in the menu too. Deleted everythin like i never had played before. But hear me. I don´t give up! Theyll patch it and break it again and again. cancel cultere is not me. I have no choice. no other games around that are similar. I know i ´m not allowed to talk about this but it took me 10 minutes to get all my stuff back. Not my Scores of course and all the missions and map discovery. All my hopes going into an fix.

Yes I do agree is a lm unique game and I also wanted to play to relax.

But let me tell you… yesterday was everything but relaxing lmao.

About the dogs. Two of my friends bought it I really dont fancy the DLC. I enjoy following the tracks by myself, this even educates me to give better shots so I wouldnt miss much time.

But I thought yesterday in quick buying the dog without leaving the game (dunno if it works this way) and making him find the corpse. Maybe at all the game was forcing me to buy the dlc, punishing me. After I read here on steam that other guy dog found three invisible corpses claimed the points but no trophy im glad I didnt. Id be twice as furious because I only wanted the trophy for my lodge and Id feel like a clown buying another dlc for nothing.

The other reason I didnt try the dog is that two days ago I was playing multiplayer with a friend. He complained he shot a buffalo many times and couldnt find it. He had killed like a half dozen buffalos that night so i trust his judgement that something was wrong. So I joined him trying to find the buffalo for like 40 minutes. They arent very quick and hard to see in the open but we could never reach him. My friend had a dog too and I thought the dog was broken because couldnt find it neither and suddenly the tracking marks also stopped. Absolutely non-relaxing at this current state!

It is strange that your backup saves were also broken. Did you validate game files integrity from Steam? If you haven't done it, I suggest you do it and restore your save file again.

Buffalos are hard to kill. with a 338 it needs 3 shots in the guts to bring them down. Thats the only game i can relax righ now. What i have also installed are all pvp and griefer cheaters floodet games i dont can handle at the moment. what i´m gonna do now is maybe a little sightseeing. travel around the maps. Or i maybe look into another game for a time. but i´m not gonna delete it. I think i play this game more like a RP than a challange. I need to give my dog a cooky every time he´s leading me to a corpse. i like it this way. But for the cause of really hunting this game is broken...once again. sadly

I've got to be honest - I am getting crashes just like your description FENRIR and it's spoiling the game for me.

EDIT - three crashes in the five minutes since I wrote this post. What a joke.

@ Alf Tupper. CTDs i would be not that angry. But these chrashes frezzing my whole pc. I can only cut the power off and restart it. How can a game break my Windows 10 down? freezing the pc? Its scary.

im new to the game still, but i have just found that pinned thread with the backup download. then i saw your thread saying your backups were broken and wouldnt restore. i didnt download it since i try to minimize what i download on my pc as much as possible and thought id just manually copy and paste the entire "Avalanche Studios" folder from the documents folder to my desktop every time i quit the game. then if i have issues with the game not loading my saved profile properly, id just manually replace the folder with the one i saved on the desktop. i havent tried this yet, but shouldnt this work?

ive also had the wounded animals ive tracked disappear completely a few times now. im new, but ive already had the max tracking distance skills unlocked for a while now from the start since its the first skills i went for, and i dont hunt near the borders of the map, nor have i tracked to those spots. i know they either turned invisible or was removed from map completely because i make sure to search quite a ways out in a circle from the last tracks spotted. plenty of white tracks from other animals in between, but no other blue tracks of the target animal. after the 1st or 2nd time this happened though i realized that they just disappear sometimes and know what to look for so i dont waste as much time second guessing and know when to end the search now. i guess i kind of see it like tracking with the glows and skills maxed out is sort of like a god/cheat mode anyway and i might never lose the trail otherwise. so the bug, intended or not kind of makes it a bit more challenging or realistic and causes an occasional one that got away moment even though i get it can still be frustrating.

edit: oh i didnt realize the game was also crashing so much for you guys too, yeah i could see that making it unplayable and create some rage. i think ive only had 2 ctd so far. 1 was when i changed a headset audio setting for the game while it was running. luckily, none of the crashes has caused my save/profile to be messed up yet though

Is any one of you over clocking? I read a couple angry posting about crashing in which over clocking was the cause.

the bugs are mounting
and finding out some of the bugs many new players ( me included ) run into are in the game for 12 month+


fixing bugs doesnt make money
pushing new DLCs does

No overclocking over here. Also got multiple crashes since last DLC reserve update. Two of them were system-locking crashes like the other users described. So something is really going on with the game.

Devs need to put more effort on stability, bugfixes and performance issues. It's making the game unplayable.

No crashes. And for the buffalo. One shot, One kill. with the 338 in the heart or in the lungs. I play on a computer. Only a few crashes. LVL 60 and I have played over 1200 hours. No problems with alligators. Like she said. Between the eye and the ear, 7mm Mag. One shot, One kill.

I think some of you missed my point about the buffalo. I was using him as an example of disappeared corpse. Ive killed a handfuld of buffalos using the game most basic guns and ammo. Im not complaining about giving ♥♥♥♥♥ shots and the animal fleeing, Im complaining the corpse of the deer I killed just vanished and telling it also happened with a buffalo on a multiplayer game.

Animals disappearing is a known bug since April apparently. Animals spawn/despawn at around 430m so if it goes beyond that they disappear. EW apparently is working to fix this in next content update (whatever that means) according to their most recent dev report. Probably at least another month.
