Viking, try hunting silver ridge peaks. There's a little tiny lake called bear wallow or something like that, it's on the western slope of the big mountain ridge in the SE of the map, directly south of the lake with the island in the middle of the map that has an outpost on its north shore. There's a drink zone there that's short AF, like 11:30-12:00 or something like that. Get there before 11:00 and post up on the ridge above the lake to the east and wait. Bonus if you can put down a tripod or blind, but the ground there is pretty tricky to get placeables on, so you may have to settle for hiding in a tree. I've seen as many as 3 dozen bears there at the same time, and it's the best spot I know of for seeing many bears at once and therefore your best shot at finding a rare fur variant.
I'll try and keep that in mind.
Right, I gave this tactic a shot. I'm camping out at the top of a ridge overlooking the tiny lake at the top of Bearwallow, which I reckon is the oen you meant. There is indeed a drinking spot with a tiny window around the time slot you pointed out; 11:00-12:30. It seems to consistently attract 3-6 bears. Not quite 3 dozen, though. Perhaps their spawn rates have been decreased, but Silver Ridge Peaks at least seems to have significantly higher rate of bear encounters than the map I was on originally. I've bagged at least two dozen on this map, however, I have still yet to encounter a single variant of the ones required for the achievement.
The last mission on New England Mountains is to spot two cinnamon black bears. So far I've downed 3-400 black bears and not a single cinnamon in sight.
That person is long gone, look at post date, lol.
Rates are actually rare.
I've downed over 800 now and still not a single Cinnamon. At 0.2% I should have seen one at 500 but nothing.
