With the .223 Armalite platform there's no need for that anymore.

Limited range and the 243 is fine. It is pretty tho.

223 isnt a new caliber... so i dont really get your comparison also its 2-4 only.

I would point out that, at least in North America, the .30-30 has probably killed more big game animals irl than all other calibers combined. I think the devs dropped the ball when they modeled it because it's not that useful in this game.
In the real world if I were limited to one rifle it would be either the 30-30 or .30-06 (which are actually the same caliber bullet).

30-30 i use a lot when it comes to close range hunting and on herds with fast shooting.
its a great gun and round.
most interesting is the fact that the round with higgher penetration is the cheaper one !

Without weapon DLCs (the weapons of which are free in-game) the 30-30 rifle is cost-effective for grinding levels and general use. It's good as your first non-starting gun. Later on it's still quite handy as a close-range brush rifle if you don't like shotguns, though mainly down to the rifle being a repeater, not the 30-30 cartridge itself.

It looks like a novelty or sidegrade due to being an antique, which I think is why it tends to be dismissed at first, but it has always been a sleeper hit with players who seriously tried it out.

When people havent maxed out their Rifle Skills yet and cant zero for Range, it makes a big Difference what Rifle you use. And of course in Score... I prefer Guns where i can expect that the Animal drops dead during the Time the Gunshot can be heard... "Lag im Knall" we call that in German ;) .
30-30 Ammo has a interesting balance between penetration and expansion, and for class 2-3 Animals its amazing.

Also the reloading while aimed down sights is really valueable when you have a Herd and selected the 2 or 3 Animals you wanna shoot.

You could shoot something on 500 Yard with the 45-70.
I own a Sharps Rifle in real... the Problem isnt the Power or so its just that it drops like a stone and has a rainbow like trajectory...... So when your Range setting in the sights is wrong, the Bullet comes curved down and hit 1 feet in front or behind the Animal.

This would not be so bad when we would have mil-dot sights for Underlevers, but we only have German Post Sights so you have to overaim and more or less guess when the Animal is more then 150 meters where the Zero Skill ends

In real i would not recommend 45.70 for Hunting it causes more Pain and suffering then you would imagine... 30 meter wrong guessed distance and instead of a Headshot the Bullet shoots of the Jaw.... or when you aim for Heart the low hitting Bullet can amputate the Legs...

Its only real good in thick Brush cause the "dull" 45-70 Bullet just cuts off little branches without getting disturbed, while Pointy long Bullets can easy start to tumble

The musket is underrated. Better than the 30 30 and 45 70 if you can live with long reloads.

Nothing I hate worse than spotting a good animal at 300+ with a 150 range gun. IRL as well as in the game. A long range gun will work at close range too so I leave the short range rifles in the lodge.

Personally, I went through the list of rifles in the game to determine my arsenal based upon magazine size and accuracy to cover the class range of animals.

I ended up with the new .22, the .243, the 6.5 mm, and the .300. I also use the King for giggles.

No weapon pack; it's from the Cuatro Colinas Reserve.
